We think Thomas likes his snazzy new door guard, though it's interfering with his plot to raid the feed room!

These give the horses more airflow and let the little ones like Thomas and Peanut keep an eye on the yard without straining their necks to look over the stable doors. 🤣

🌡️Heatwave Horse Care🌡️

In extreme weather like we're currently experiencing, we always take extra care to ensure our horses and ponies are safe and comfortable. Wondering what that looks like?

⛱️ Turning out horses overnight and bringing them in during the day to rest in shady, well-ventilated stables. Horses kept out 24/7 are moved to the shadiest paddocks and equipped with fly masks and rugs as needed.

🌞Avoiding sun exposure by canceling lessons during severe heat (like today) and riding in the morning and evening when it's safer. We also put equine sunscreen on ponies with areas of exposed pink skin, like Thomas's nose!

🪣Checking, cleaning, and refilling troughs and buckets more frequently to keep up with increased drinking. In weather like this, horses can drink more than 50 liters a day.

💦Hosing or sponging off horses and ponies after any work, or whenever they look like they need it. For ponies like Wills who are sensitive to bites and need to wear fly rugs, wetting down the rug is a great way to bring down the temperature. A cold wet towel draped over a stabled horse's neck can also provide great relief - Blondie loves this!

Of course, the best strategy for all of us in this kind of weather is to follow Bee's lead and take a nap in a cool spot whenever we can. 😴

Our yearly licensing inspection went without a hitch!
Thank you to everyone who helped with preparations and for the trot up! Extra thanks to Lorrie Lewis, Amanda Winstone, Rachel Hastings, Sue Carpenter and Millie for working flat out to get ponies and tack ready.
The vet said that we 'set a very high standard, consistently showing how it should be done!'

Well done everyone!
Now we get to enjoy the summer 😊
