Shinobu Kai martial arts is a local, Family orientated Karate based martial art and self defence club. We run regular public classes and self defence Seminars locally. We also run after school clubs and self defence classes for schools in the local area. Benefits:
School students who practice martial arts can derive many benefits from taking classes. We promote cardiovascular health because we
are a form of exercise. The poses, moves and kicks all work together to strengthen muscles and can elevate the heart rate. Students may also work on breathing patterns, and our activities require that students focus on breathing while executing certain moves. This form of concentration helps to decrease overall stress levels and recognise discipline: something that many school students may be managing between schoolwork, relationships and extracurricular activities. Involving your students in a physical activity at a young age sets the stage for a positive attitude toward fitness throughout their life. Martial arts classes are known for promoting respect and self-discipline while giving children an age-appropriate, fun workout. Some parents might think that martial arts classes are too violent, but in our classes, violence is not condoned and a spirit of discipline, self-improvement and teamwork is fostered. Self-Defence:
Our training is purely for defensive purposes. Classes not only teach students self-defence as a form of protection, but also self-discipline, which can help students to better understand how to handle situations where they are being picked on. For those who are facing demoralizing situations, martial arts classes help them to feel accomplished, boosting self esteem. They are also a mechanism for meeting other students who have similar interests, which provides friendship and support. Class Structure:
Martial arts programs for children are generally structured by monthly themes. For example, a month long curriculum might follow a perseverance theme. Students work on their techniques using exercises that relate to perseverance, such as kicking contests, constant movement drills or repeated forms. The instructors use specific drills and discuss scenarios with the students to demonstrate the importance of perseverance. At the end of the month, students are rewarded for their efforts, so they can mark their progress. We teach the children how to develop respect and confidence, learn how to avoid strangers and pick up basic self-defence, how to avoid dangerous situations and how to defeat a bully without fighting. An important point to note is that our students are taught that the physical side of what we teach them should only ever be used in self-defence.
