Well done to everyone who came along to our very first Kids BJJ inter club Southend Street Gym

16 children took part and gained tonnes of competition experience today for the first time. Coming from 4 different gyms around Essex and Kent.
Thank you to all the coaches and parents who brought their children along. Well done to those who were almost not going to compete, but put their brave head on, felt the fear, did it anyway and had an amazing time.
We raised £170 for the All Mighty Youth charity and every penny will be going directly to the charity.

Thank you to Ricardo for making the mat space available today. Your support in helping us raise money and give the kids valuable experience is greatly appreciated.

I’m sure everyone went away today buzzing. I certainly did. For those who couldn’t make today, I will plan another later in the year for sure.

Btw: I get a lot of questions about the red and black belt. We call this the tiger belt. It’s awarded to the child who did very well in the class. The following week they get to be my assistant and have the privilege of choosing the game at the end of the class.
Every kids wants the tiger belt or the lion belt in the older class. They always feel proud when there chosen.

Learning Brazilian jiu jitsu doesn’t come naturally to anyone and it takes years to master. But when kids feel empowered, they don’t give up and their confidence and enjoyment grows with each class.

This week was all about the triangle. Submitting with the triangle and escaping the triangle.
Siena worked exceptionally well this week and showed so much hard work and determination to get it right. Something she had never done before.
Always learning, always having fun and always building confidence and strength.

This week we continued with the guard and getting out! Flossie and Florence showed determination and won our little championship game of getting out of the guard.
Flossie continued to show so much determination in sparring, so was awarded the Tiger belt for doing so great! She’s only 5 years old!!

Jiu Jitsu isn’t easy, so with encouragement and fun learning, kids will naturally find their inner strength, that could last a lifetime.
