The 18th tee has become a far sterner test in recent years.
We can't wait to see how it performs next month where it will no doubt create some drama down the stretch.

Our 7th hole was transformed during the Mackenzie and Eberts course renovation.
The low-lying, poor-draining green of the past, played from a similar length to the other par 3s is now a short par 3 from a new direction to a raised, intricate green.
The third hole poses a clear strategic question:
How tight will you play it to those fairway bunkers for the best angle into the green, especially from the elevated tees when the wind kicks up?

The clubhouse during the 1946 Amateur Championship.
80 years later, the building has evolved with extensions, but the unique art-deco aethetic still remains an iconic feature of our links.

This month brings the Amateur Championship to Royal Liverpool, with West Lancashire co-hosting in what promises to be a remarkable summer for North-West golf.
As such, now is a good time to celebrate the four occasions we've hosted this prestigious event.

In 1978, Nick Faldo won the first of his 27 PGA Tour victories, plus his six majors, at Birkdale in the Colgate Championship.
Just 20 years old at the time, he finished with an eagle at the 15th and two birdies on the 17th and 18th to win by 10 shots, just two years after his Open Championship debut at Birkdale.
Our course stands apart from other Open venues: it was purpose-built for championship golf and remains one of the first courses specifically designed for championships.
That legacy speaks for itself. Ryder Cups, Walker Cups, Curtis Cups, Open Championships, Women's Opens and Senior Opens have all been contested over our links.

A moment of appreciation for our 7th green, expertly redesigned by Mackenzie & Ebert to improve drainage and add jeopardy to this short par 3, that now plays from the dunes to the right.

On this day in 1948, we hosted the Curtis Cup, then known as the Ladies Golf Union International Match. Glenna Collett Vare, Helen Holm and Zara Bolton, who stepped in last minute for Diana Critchley, were among the notable names.
The US won the match 6.5 to 2.5, with two of GB&I's points coming courtesy of Ireland's Jean Donald.
The event would kickstart a championship run which saw us also host the Walker Cup, The Open and the Ryder Cup over the next 17 years.
Many holes have been transformed since 2017 and will command attention ahead of this year's Open.
But the 13th holds a different kind of significance - shaped by an unforgettable moment from the final round, nine years ago.
