Sun, sea, and a fleet of mirrors 73 strong greeted West Lancs members Kaye and Freya at this year's Abersoch Mirror Week.
For Freya, one of our youngest junior sailors, this was her first event outside the club. Given the scale of the event, and the fact that this is her first season of regular crewing, this is a massive achievement.
In a boat that became progressively more race tuned throughout the week, the pair finished the week with a great set of final results:
55th Overall
20th silver fleet
3rd Gaff rigged boat

Well done to all the North West Region sailors that took part, it's great to see so many local boats achieving such good results.

Team WLYC was on tour again, with club juniors Ollie and Poppy making the trip north for Bassenthwaite Sailing Clubs annual Bass Week. Competing in both the RS200 and the event itself for the first time.
Technical difficulties and interesting weather conditions made for a rocky start, but by the end of the week they began to produce some solid results in a fleet made up mostly of more experienced adults.
A great effort from both, and we all look forward to seeing you progress in a new class. ⛵⛵

Blustery conditions kept the first junior summer race coaching session ashore, with sailors focusing on race fitness and starting theory. The big kids managed to hit the water for some high speed sailing, with a capsize or two!

Looking forward to the next session and being able to put into practice what we've learned. ⛵⛵

Well done to the North West Region's sailors who took part in the 2026 NSSA Regatta as part of the Lancashire Youth Sailing team. The long trip to Kent was worth it with some amazing results across the board! ⛵⛵

The summer sailing season kicked off with glorious sunshine at the second annual John Dennis trophy day. A great turnout from club sailors resulted in close racing, with it all to play for right up until the last race.

A special mention is needed for the club's junior sailors that took part. In a fleet of 36 entries just under half involved a junior sailor, either solo or paired with an adult. With the results achieved reflecting all the hard work put in this season.

As always without the hard work of club members volunteering their time to run these events, both on and off the water, races like this wouldn't happen. So a big thank you to them!

Team WLYC had a great time at the North Junior and Youth Championships at Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club last weekend. A weekend of plenty of breeze through to barely a ripple, with scorching sunshine throughout, resulted in great racing across all the fleets. Thank you to North East & Yorkshire Youth Sailing and all their volunteers for putting together an amazing event.

A special mention to Team WLYC member Poppy, who won the ILCA4 championship fleet with 1st in all but one of the races.

Good luck to all the North sailors taking part in the 2026 North Region Youth and Junior Championships at Derwent Reservoir SC.
Special mention goes to the Team WLYC juniors making the trip across to the North East. Best of luck to Poppy, Autumn, Savannah and Freya. ⛵⛵

Entry to the 2026 North Region Youth & Junior Championships to be held at Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club is open.

Please head over to https://www.neyysa.org/northregiony-jchamps
for all the information and the entry form.

We can't wait for this event, it's the biggest event of the year in the regional Y&J sailing calendar and the last two years have been fantastic events. Don't miss out - there is something for everyone. If you have friends at your home club who haven't been before - get the date in their diary and help them get there.

The regatta fleet will be running again for our less experienced sailors to help them get out on the race course and loving racing. A revised rookie fleet will also be running as part of the regatta fleet - see the website for more information.

The event will also incorporate several class calendar events.

The volunteer registration sheet is also available on the website.

The Bank Holiday weekend brought not only glorious sunshine to West Lancs, but also a fleet of sailors from across the North. We welcomed the ILCA North GP and Streaker Northern Paddle in a joint event that was well represented by both local and visiting sailors. A massive thank you also goes out to the club members who volunteered their time to make the event happen.

Well done to the winners of each event: ILCA - Ian Jones (Dovestone SC) and Streaker - Steve Blackburn (West Lancashire YC)

We look forward to seeing you all next year for another great event.
