Today we said a final goodbye to Steve. He really was a "superman". Such a great guy, taken far too soon. He will never be forgotten by anyone who knew him. He had such a positive impact on everyone he met & for that reason, we should all try to be a bit more Steve!

Members of Southport Karate Academy trained in Newton-Le-Willows today on the KSKA course run by Sensei Michaylo Fedyk, the chairman of the English Shotokan Academy. A great course as always

It is with great sadness that we pay tribute to Sensei Steve Trussell, who tragically & very suddenly passed away on Tuesday 5th May, 2026.
Steve was a massive part of the club for many years & was a great friend whose enthusiasm for life & everything he did, was an inspiration to us all. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him & trained with him. We are lucky to have many great memories of times shared with him.
Our thoughts are with Charlotte, his boys & all his family at this time

The choice you make for your child.

The image is simple, but the message is not. On one side, a child sits absorbed in a screen passive, slouched, disengaged. On the other a child trains focused, disciplined, alive with intent.

The difference between those two paths is not chance, it is choice. And that choice is made long before the result is seen.

The modern distraction.... children today are growing up in a world designed to capture their attention. Screens are immediate, easy, and endlessly stimulating. Left unchecked, they become the default.

The problem is not technology itself, it is the absence of balance. I find it is a problem as an adult, so imagine a brain that is still absorbing and developing. A child who spends most of their time sedentary begins to lose more than just physical fitness. They lose structure, resilience, and the ability to engage with effort. Over time this shapes habits, and we all know habits shape identity.

Training teaches a child that growth comes from effort, not convenience. A child who trains is not just becoming stronger physically, they are becoming more capable as a human being.

Children do not choose their environment. Parents do.

There are 168 hours in a week. Training requires about 2 of those hours.
2 hours out of 168! Time is not the limitation, priority is.

The choice you make now determines the result later. Children do not drift toward the better path on their own.... They are guided there.
