Did somebody say double figures?

What a way to start the season with ten goals under our belt - goals galore from M. Gibson and F. Thornton with one a piece from J. Webster and S. Birnie to fully seal the deal.

Captain Emma quoted: “Well, what an opener. We decided to put last season behind us, regroup and started early this season. The girls and management didn’t have much of a break during the off-season as we were soon back to training, working on additional fitness outside of the pitch alongside getting minutes under our belt with a number of pre-season friendlies.
All of that intense effort paid off today; the fitness showed - to the last minute we were fighting for the ball and making runs up the pitch and getting goals.

I am so proud of each and every player. We thoroughly deserved that win.”

We wish West Kirby the best, and we will see them again for the reverse fixture later in the season.

Sunday’s hatrick hero - Freya wins POTM!

A first Southport Hatrick for Freya - all scored in just 65 minutes!

Since joining the club, Freya has been a breath of fresh air and has settled into the group brilliantly. She’s been a fantastic addition who brings quality herself, but importantly brings the best out of the players around her too.

A real team player, a pleasure to coach and someone the girls clearly enjoy playing alongside. She’s always willing to listen and learn, with a real hunger to keep improving and become the best version of herself.

A brilliant attitude matched by her quality on the pitch.

Our manager, Callum, summaries Sunday’s performance:

“Really pleased with the performance today. We had a slow start and went in 1-0 up at half-time, but the response in the second half was outstanding.

The intensity of our press, our fitness levels, the way we competed for every 50/50 and how often we won the ball back in their third showed exactly what we’ve been working on.

It was great to see Freya get her first hat-trick for Southport, and even more impressive to do it in just 65 minutes. Mel added another two to her tally, while Sam scored a brilliant goal directly from our high press.

It was also fantastic to see new signing Jen get on the scoresheet from defensive midfield, striking through a crowd of bodies after a corner wasn’t cleared.

Seven goals, a clean sheet and 13 goals in our last two games is obviously really pleasing, but it’s the manner of the performances that stands out.

We demand a lot from the players - in training and we’re starting to see the rewards of that.

EVERY player put a shift in today which was really pleasing to watch. There’s real quality throughout this squad now and still plenty more to come.

We keep working. We keep pushing. We don’t stop now.”

In our penultimate pre-season friendly we face one of our local teams, Hesketh Colts.

Within a stones-throw from each other, the teams will be looking for bragging rights of Southport.

We’ll be looking to continue to get minutes in the tank and keep the winning momentum from last Wednesday.
