I haven’t done a race report in ages!

After a long break between meetings, it was finally time for the last round of the Southeast Region BRCA 1/10th Off Road regionals at Titchfield Off Road Club Hants. The track was really good – fast and flowing with some tricky jumps.

The day didn’t get off to the best start though. A short but heavy shower completely ruined practice, so I went into qualifying with no real idea what the car was going to be like.

The next four rounds were really tough. My Willspeed Fast Fox had good speed, but I was constantly chasing the setup as the grip kept changing while the track dried out and warmed up. It was really hard to find something that stayed consistent.

I ended up qualifying 8th in the A Final, which was okay but a bit off the pace. The finals were pretty frustrating too. I had to stand the shocks back up before the finals, which was a bit of a compromise. The car was good enough to hold my position, but not quite quick enough to fight further up the field, so I finished 8th overall.

One of the best parts of the day was battling with my fellow Faversham Off Road Car Club driver, Callum Barrett, for the Junior Championship. We had some really close racing all day, and luckily I managed to come out on top and win the championship, but Callum definitely made me work for it!

A huge shout out to Chris Langley for his efforts, once again, organising another successful regional series

Now it’s on to my last race of the summer at Round 5 of the BRCA 1:10th Off Road Nationals at Bury Metro RCC in a couple of weeks. Hopefully we can finish the summer on a high!

Thanks too to Darren Lewis for the tyre glueing clamps, defo love the pink to match my shell!

Another BRCA 1:10th Off Road Nationals complete at sunny SRCC - Southport Radio Control Car Club ☀️

I set my Willspeed Fast Fox up based on my experience from last year but found that the grip level was totally different and it meant a whole load of changes from practice to qualifying 🙄

I didn’t quite get the set up right for the first couple of rounds of quali and it meant I was 115th overall going in to round 3 😬

Thankfully a few more tweaks meant the car felt much better in round 3, and by not overdriving, I got a 36th and then 30th in round, ending qualis in 44th place overall 😅
This meant I lined up 4th in the E, which is waaay better than where I thought I was going to end up 🙌

The final started well and after some mistakes from the front runners, I got into the lead on the first lap and then managed to pull out a small gap. Unfortunately, the back section of the track bit back and a small mistake meant I crashed, leaving me with a 5th place finish 🤦🏻 but still some good points for the overall championship.

Shout out to Willspeed drivers Roger RT99 Racing (the victim of some unsportsmanlike driving), he was 7th in the F and Kyle Moon 9th in the C.

Once again, great coverage by RC Racing TV - here’s my final - https://youtu.be/hdebLgckLzo?start=31194&end=31386

Next up is a holiday to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the 24 Hours of Spa before the Junior/Vets with little bro and chief spanner man at NDOR THE HOME OF 1/8 AND 1/10 OFF ROAD in a few weeks 😁

Round 3 of the BRCA 1:10th Off Road Nationals is done ✅ at a warm and sunny Robin Hood Raceway!

I’d never raced here before, but it’s probably become my new favourite track. It’s got loads of lumps and bumps, plus a couple of massive bomb-hole features which were seriously cool 😎

My Willspeed Fast Fox 🦊 was awesome all day. I only made one small setup change to get a bit more front-end steering, but honestly it felt dialled in from the first run.

Qualifying was a bit of a mixed bag again. A slipper clutch issue ruined Round 1, but Kyle Moon and his magic nuts came to the rescue (don’t ask 😂) and got it sorted.

Round 2 was a great run, missing out on 13 laps by just 1 second, which was enough for 31st in the round. Round 3 was a bit slower as I over-drove in a few places and threw away some time.

Round 4 was looking really good. I was comfortably leading and on for a 13-lapper until I missed my line by millimetres, clipped the concrete apex and ended up upside down in the bomb-hole 😳. It was so frustrating because I only lost a few seconds, but that dropped me to 2nd in the round and ultimately cost me a place in the D Final 🤬

Still, I ended up 41st overall and on pole position for the E Final – another first for me, as I’ve never qualified higher than the F Final before!

The final started really well. I led for the first four laps with a lot of pressure from 2nd place, an F1 that had loads of pace, until I missed exactly the same line and pulled off a carbon-copy somersault into the bomb-hole 🤦‍♂️

That let the leader get away, but I managed to hold onto 2nd place, finishing 3 seconds behind 1st and 7 seconds ahead of 3rd. That gave me 42nd overall – what a result!!

Big shout-out to my fellow Fast Fox drivers. Roger RT99 Racing was probably hoping for a higher final, but still had a great run to finish 3rd in the F Final. A tough final for Kyle in the D after getting hit off the track on lap one by a very unsportsmanlike competitor who just drove off 🤬.

Also a mention to the Faversham Off Road Car Club crew. Team Tames RC Evie had an amazing drive from 9th to 2nd in the I, with Hattie gaining a place to finish 6th in the F 👏

Next up is a couple of weeks off before Round 2 of Southeast Region BRCA 1/10th Off Road at 1066 Racing, then straight on to Southport for Round 4 of the Nationals!

Round 3 of the BRCA 1:10th Off Road Nationals at Robin Hood Raceway is a go….the track layout is great, it’s going to be fun!

The Willspeed Fast Fox 🦊 is going well in practice already, a couple of little tweaks and then round 1 of Quali

It’s a hot day here, plenty of sun tan lotion going to be needed today. ☀️☀️☀️🥵

Well, that was certainly a looong day!

Sunday was round 1 of the 2WD Southeast Region BRCA 1/10th Off Road at Eden Park Raceway, a track I know and always enjoy.

My Willspeed Fast Fox 🦊 had a good starting setup after a practice day here a few weeks ago, so it was just a matter of getting to grips with the layout and lines through the moguls and stone cobbles.

Qualifiers were a mixed bag, a DNF with a spur gear/slipper issue in the first round left me needing two solid runs. Thankfully, a near-flawless run for 2nd place (R2) and a strong run to 4th (R4) left me 4th overall, which was amazing, having narrowly missed out on multiple ‘A’ finals last year.

After some lengthy delays due to technical/timing issues, the finals finally started as the clouds rolled in.

In A1, the car felt great and I managed to get up to 2nd place, finishing only 1 second behind fellow Fast Foxer and Willspeed legend(!), Kyle Moon

Then, the rain started…..

A2 saw light rain. I got a good start, moving up to 3rd but then got unlucky on lap 2, unable to avoid joining the back of a crash with Nathan Ralls which left me running near the back – a recovery drive back to 6th was the best I could achieve.

A3 was a virtual washout – a downpour left the track like a skating rink and a small mistake in a bad position cost me a handful of seconds, taking me from chasing 3rd to another 6th place.

I ended up in 6th place overall, amongst some very good drivers and 1st place Junior, my best regional to date.

A big shout out to my fellow FORCCers for some great drives:
🔹Kyle for the overall win – Fast Foxes leading the way!
🔹Callum Barrett with a perfect wet weather drive for 1st in B, alongside Shane Baker (5th) and Dave A (7th).
🔹Dad, not bottling it for the first time to win the D
🔹Lochlain looking controlled in tricky damp conditions to win the E with Dave Wheeler (5th) and Jodie Moon (8th)
🔹And little bro, George, storming through the field from 7th in his first ever wet conditions to take 3rd in the F!

Thanks to all at EPR for another great track layout.

Up next, round 3 of the BRCA nationals at Robin Hood Raceway on the 30th May.

(Limited pics – my official photographer/spanner man – Dad, was obviously on strike!)

Round 2 of the BRCA 1:10th Off Road Nationals complete with my first visit to Bingham Model Raceway and what an experience it was!

A track with plenty of bumps in combination with a high level of grip meant I spent the day searching for balance between bump handling and traction.

After practice, I made a few changes from my Potteries RC setup and by Qualifying my Willspeed Fast Fox 🦊was feeling a lot more stable.

I had 2 good runs in quali, with a 30th and 49th in round. If it wasn’t for some silly errors on my side in the other 2 rounds, I would have made it into the ‘E’, but I was pleased to be lining up on pole for the ‘F’.

The final started well but unfortunately, I got tagged going into a corner and lost the lead early on. It didn’t put me off though, and I managed to get back to the leader and stay with him, keeping the pressure on until his mistake midway through allowed me to retake the lead. Those last 3 minutes felt like the longest of my life! The car felt good all the way round and by keeping it clean I took the win which I was chuffed about!

A big shout out to my fellow Willspeed Fast Foxers Kyle Moon and Roger Tugwood RT99 Racing for 2nd and 4th in the D finals respectively, some great driving from them all day in challenging conditions and to my Faversham Off Road Car Club mates Hattie (8th in F) and Evie (3rd in H) Team Tames RC

Thanks to RC Racing TV for the fantastic coverage and commentary!

Next up, Southeast Region BRCA 1/10th Off Road regionals at Eden Park Raceway this Sunday with my Dad and brother George also competing – time to get back to the maintenance and setup!
