After four successive defeats Eynesbury Rovers avoided a potential banana skin at Step 6 club Netherton United with two goals from Dean Dummett giving the visitors a 2-0 lead before Netherton netted a late consolation goal.
Manager Neil Morris gave a debut to Moussa Fousenni with two youngsters, Alex and Michael Ademiluyi, making their first appearances as late substitutes.
On the hosts 3G surface Eynesbury held the upper hand throughout the game. Luke Young came close with a shot from 25 yards that just cleared the goal and a strong run by Freddie Findlay finished with him playing a 1-2 in the box with Jordan Brown before shooting inches wide of the far post.
Jordan Neil had a chance for the hosts after a defensive error but his heavy touch on the ball sent him wide of goal and then his shot was put behind for a corner by Michael King.
Eynesbury took the lead in the 24th minute with a flowing move involving Luke Young, Jordan Brown and Oskar Ciach whose ball into the six-yard box was back heeled home by Dummett. Further chances came the visitors’ way as Brown shot wide of the near post before Adam Wedd tried his luck from long range but it was straight at goalkeeper Toby Hart. Later a long clearance out of defence was pounced on by Brown but his touch to push the ball past Hart was too heavy and the ball went out for a goal kick.
Just five minutes into the second half Rovers made it 2-0. Ciach cut in from the left wing and his shot came back off the crossbar to Jordan Brown whose header was then headed home by Dummett for his second.
Later Freddie Findlay made a strong run before threading the ball through for Brown but he shot across the face of goal. Luke Young had a close range effort cleared off the line from a Lewis Lynn free kick.
Netherton saw a close range effort blocked by a defender and Adulai Balde hit his shot into the ground and it cleared the bar. However, they did get a consolation goal in stoppage time when James Hoskins spilled a long range shot and Kyial West netted the loose ball.
Rovers will find out their opponents in the First Round Proper when the draw takes place on Monday at 1pm. Next up for Rovers is a home UCL fixture against Yaxley on Tuesday 15th September, kick off 7.45pm.
