🏏 Last week saw us gather at The Ambassadors Cruise Line Ground in Chelmsford to present the Cambridgeshire Cricket “Cricket Collective” Awards for 2026.

The Cricket Collective Awards shine a light on the volunteers, young leaders, clubs and community groups who keep cricket thriving.

Across the coming posts we’ll celebrate our category winners and everyone who was nominated. First up...

🏆 Metro Bank Champion of Girls Cricket - Sponsored by Metro Bank, this award celebrates those championing opportunities for girls to play, coach and lead.

👏 Our Winner: Neil Bingham, Cambourne Cricket Club

With an incredible 15 nominations, Neil’s impact on girls’ cricket at Cambourne is clear. Just three years ago, the club had no girls’ section - today, it’s thriving.

A parent who stepped up to become a coach and umpire, Neil has helped lead the U13s to a league title, supported the U14s in the ECB Cup and is a constant presence at training and matches.

His organisation, commitment and encouragement have made a huge difference.

A very worthy winner — congratulations, Neil! 👏🏏💙

Also nominated: Jeremy Major (Fulbourn CC), Richard Bardsley & Mark Laffety (Ickleton CC) and Sophie Kettley (Cambridgeshire County Girls U13s).

🏆 Coach of the Year - This award celebrates a coach who goes above and beyond to inspire and develop players, creating a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment.

👏 Our Winner: Peter Kirsch, Cambourne Cricket Club

Peter received three nominations for his outstanding contribution to the Cricket 365 project, helping young people access quality coaching and practice all year round. He was also recognised for his wider contribution to Cambourne’s junior section and the club as a whole.

A fantastic achievement — well done, Peter! 👏🏏

🏆 CELEBRATING THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE CRICKET HAPPEN! 🏏

On Sunday, we celebrated the Cambridgeshire Cricket Collective Awards 2026, recognising all the fantastic volunteers from clubs, leagues and associations who give their time, energy and passion to make cricket happen across the county💙

For the 8th year, our Presentation Day was held in partnership with Essex Cricket at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground in Chelmsford. As well as celebrating their achievements, our award winners were able to enjoy some top-class cricket, watching Essex Women take on Surrey in the Metro Bank One Day competition.

🏏What a way to finish the season for our Cambridgeshire Cricket CAG U13 Boys!💪

The boys headed to Taunton for the final week of the season, and after a summer of sunshine and record-breaking temperatures, it was perhaps fitting that rain stopped play just 10 minutes into the first match! 🌧️😂

Thankfully, it was only a shower and the rest of the week went largely uninterrupted.

Five games in five days against a real mix of opposition, increasingly tired legs and definitely deteriorating levels of sleep… 😴 But the boys kept going and did themselves incredibly proud:

🏆 3 wins from 5 matches
🥈 2nd overall in their group
💪 A hard-fought week against some excellent opposition

Congratulations to Wiltshire, who topped the group and beat us in a closely fought match on the main pitch on Thursday.

⭐ There were some outstanding individual performances too:
