Off peak parking at Birches Valley - that's week days during term time not school holidays currently.
Addressing one of the issues raised in the rider survey I circulated
Great news for Cannock Chase riders! ๐
We are thrilled to announce that Birches Valley at Cannock Chase now has provision for off-peak horsebox parking! Another positive outcome from our current Cannock Chase National Landscape Farming in Protected Landscapes project.
The website has been updated, and there will be a permissive route from the parking area directly to the bridleways. Many thanks to the Foresty England Team at Cannock Chase.
We hope this provision will encourage riders who prefer or need facilities such as toilets nearby and address the requests for more secure-feeling parking from some riders in our survey.

Our Cannock Chase resource for horse riders is gathering pace! ๐
Our project lead, Sharon, has been a force of nature. She's been out in all weathers scouting routes and parking spots, and working closely with stakeholders to make sure every voice is heard. ๐ง๏ธ
A massive THANK YOU to the 101 riders who shared their thoughts via our survey on the future of the Chase. Your feedback has been invaluable to the project, and the results are in! ๐บ๏ธ
๐ก Hereโs what weโve learned about how you ride ๐ก
โข Solo vs. social - while most enjoy a ride with friends, over half of you love the peace of a solo ride through the trees ๐ฒ
โข The 10km sweet spot - 70% of you usually cover between 5โ10km per ride ๐
โข Walk this way - a third of our community aren't just in the saddle, they're leading their horses on foot, too! ๐ถ
โข Go your own way - many of you know the Chase trails so well that you decide your route as you go ๐พ
๐ The challenges ๐
Grab your neckstrap, it's not always a smooth ride... Youโve highlighted that loose dogs, road crossings, and busy sections are the biggest hurdles on the Chase trails right now.
๐ญ The wish list ๐ญ
We heard you loud and clear! Youโre dreaming of:
โ
Clearer waymarking & better maps
โ
Dedicated parking with actual facilities
โ
More grassy paths to explore
โ
Educational info for other users of the chase
Weโre taking all of this on board to make your experience of the Chase even better for you and your horses. Whatโs one thing that would make your next ride at Cannock Chase perfect? Let us know in the comments! ๐
๐ The project is funded by Cannock Chase National Landscape Farming in Protected Landscapes and BHS's Ride Out Fund. ๐

๐ฃIf youโve used roads with a horse or pony in the previous year, we would love to hear from you! It can be with your own or one you loan or share, or even one you only occasionally exercise. We would like to hear about your activity and experiences when using public roads together as well as your thoughts about road safety.

Who has a fire horse? My little Amber has a fire horse temperament. And I was born in a fire horse year ๐ She's been with me for almost two years now. She's as real sweetie, loves a fuss, always getting into mischief and a little sensitive to her surroundings. If she's worried I need to stand quietly and reassure her. I'm hoping to back her this year and restart my endurance journey. I had a little sit on her last year but waiting for some better weather as I don't have an arena, just a muddy field! I'll be sharing our journey ๐ฅฐ

I sometimes take secateurs out with me for minor issues ๐
Is your favourite local bridleway being obstructed and youโre not sure what to do, well not to fear the access team is here. ๐ฆธ๐ผโโ๏ธ
Here are our recommended first steps you take:
๐ฒ Identify the location of the issue
๐ฒ Take photos of the issue if possible
๐ฒ Check the online map of rights of way in your county/authority area
๐ฒ Report the issue via the online reporting portal for the county/authority
๐ฒ Even if the problem has already been reported, REPORT IT AGAIN!
๐ฒ Allow the authority a reasonable time to respond to the report
๐ฒ Follow up the report if you do not receive a satisfactory response within a reasonable time
๐ฒ Raise with the Parish Council if you are dissatisfied with the response from the county/authority
If youโve reported an issue and need further support, please email [email protected]
