🏌️ IS YOUR BACKSWING TOO LONG? 🤔

It might not be the length of your backswing that’s the problem… it could be a lack of CONNECTION! 👀

Here’s a snippet from a recent lesson where my client was struggling with inconsistent contact and clubface control.

The issue? Too much arm lift during the backswing, causing the arms to become disconnected from the body’s rotation.

This was making it much harder to control:

❌ Low point and strike
❌ Clubface position

THE FIX? âś…

We worked on maintaining better connection between the arms and body from hip height in the backswing, allowing everything to work together more effectively.

💡 Here’s the important bit…

Sometimes you don’t need to try to shorten your backswing.

By improving connection, you can naturally reduce excessive arm travel, create a more controlled backswing and make delivering the club consistently much easier!

🏌️ THE ULTIMATE SWING PLANE TRAINER?

If you struggle with getting the club stuck behind you or coming over the top give this a try 👇

Two simple constraints:

➡️ Alignment stick through the belt loops — gives you instant feedback if the club gets too far behind you in the downswing.

➡️ Block outside the golf ball — encourages you to deliver the club on plane rather than getting steep and cutting across it.

The goal isn’t to force the club onto one “perfect” plane — it’s to create boundaries that help you find a more functional delivery.

Start slowly rehearse it first and then gradually build up to hitting shots.

Save this one and give it a go at the range 📌

Real improvement comes from commitment, not quick fixes. 👊

A little insight into a recent lesson with Neil.

We identified that too much lateral movement away from the ball in his backswing was contributing to inconsistent contact — particularly fats and thins.

We also worked on creating more depth in the swing, as his lead arm was getting too high and working down too steeply, which was contributing to some pulls.

We used a few different drills to help Neil understand and feel the changes, and by the end of the session we were both really happy with the progress.

But this is what I really like about Neil’s journey…

He’s committed to my “Improve Every Month” subscription — it includes 1 hour of in-person coaching every month alongside unlimited online check-ins.

That means we’re not trying to fix everything in one lesson + if he gets stuck with a change between lessons he can send me some videos over and get answers right away!

This is where real changes happen!

Not just the 1 hour a month in the teaching bay, but working on his game consistently and having the support to make them stick!

This is what can happen when you commit to improving your golf.

If you’re serious about improving your game and want to find out more about my “Improve Every Month” subscriptions - drop me a DM and I’ll talk you through how it works 📲

Long irons don’t have to be intimidating!

Here are 3 tips to help you strike them better:

1. Don’t try and hit your long irons high. Trust the club’s loft and focus on making a solid strike. ⛳️

2. Stay committed through the shot! ⛳️

3. Make a smooth controlled swing! ⛳️

Better contact comes from good rhythm and good contact, not extra effort!

The lower, penetrating flight you see from great players comes from quality contact—not trying to force the ball into the air.
