Weekly, weekend road closures will be in place from this Friday at 8pm to the 2nd Nov, between Gailey Island of the A5 and the M6 J12.

On behalf of West Midlands Interchange: The A5 Watling Street between Gailey Roundabout and M6 J12 will be closed in both directions from 8pm Friday to 6am Monday on each weekend between 9th October and 2nd November 2026. Diversion routes and access to properties will be signed.

🧩 WOMEN ON WHEELS | LEARNING, UNDERSTANDING & SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY

If you’ve taken part in this year’s Bike & Brew Passport Event, you may already know the name 'Make Your Mark - who are the charity behind the passport, helping to bring people together while supporting better mental health and wellbeing. 💛

But their work goes far beyond the Bike & Brew Passport.

Make Your Mark is also creating opportunities to learn, understand and talk about subjects that can have a real impact on people’s lives, including mental health, neurodiversity and the way our brains work.

So we wanted to share some of their upcoming FREE online events with our Staffordshire Women on Wheels community.

🧩 WHAT IS AUTISM?

📅 Tuesday 13th October ⏰7pm – 9pm 💻Online

Ever wondered what autism actually IS?

This session will look at autism from both a historical and modern perspective, comparing historical psychiatry with modern-day neuroscience, as well as exploring sensory processing in the autistic brain.

It’s an opportunity to learn more, challenge assumptions and perhaps gain a better understanding of how autistic people can experience the world around them.

THEY GAVE THEIR TODAY FOR OUR TOMORROW. ❤️

Yesterday, Women on Wheels joined thousands of others for Ride to the Wall for a day of remembrance, reflection with the motorcycle together community coming together as one.

The service was moving, giving us time to pause, reflect and remember, whilst also appreciating the freedom and friendships we’re fortunate to enjoy today.

It was lovely to have local ladies approach us after the service and share their stories.

Including this lady, known as the Dress Lady, with Petunia the pig, who had stopped overnight in Cannock while travelling from Blackpool to attend RTTW and today, she’ll be swapping her biker gear for a ballroom dress. 💃

We also had Claire, a new local rider who connected with Women on Wheels through last week’s Biker Down workshop. Yesterday was her first ever group ride on her lovely Suzuki 125cc - and not a small group either - of nearly 300 motorcycles to then being surrounded by another 6,000 bikes (approx) at the Arboretum and she did absolutely fantastic 👏😁

It’s fantastic to see new female riders joining us and, year after year, watching our Women on Wheels community continue to grow here in Staffordshire.

You really never know who you’re going to meet through biking!

They gave their today for our tomorrow and many continue to serve and make sacrifices for us today. Lest we forget. ❤️

SATURDAY, WE RIDE 🏍️

The countdown is nearly over. Soon the engines will fire up, the roads will fill with motorcycles and we’ll ride together in remembrance.

The Ride to the Wall awaits.

A couple of us from Women on Wheels are already booked to ride in with the Wolseley Bridge ride-in, and we’re making the journey over together.

📍 Meeting at Hednesford Tesco - 8:00am

🕘 Main ride leaves Wolseley at 9:25am

And this isn't just for the Women on Wheels ladies!

Anyone who is already booked in with the Wolseley Group Ride is welcome to meet us at Hednesford Tesco and ride over with us.

So, if you're heading to RTTW but don't fancy arriving at Wolseley on your own, come and join us.

We'll head over together, meet up with the main group, take in the atmosphere and get ourselves ready for the ride ahead.

Because sometimes it's not about knowing everyone before you arrive - it's about turning up, riding together and making new connections along the way.

So get your bike ready (fuel your tank), get your kit sorted and set that alarm…⏰

WOMEN ON WHEELS | INSPIRING WOMEN, INSPIRING RIDES

We absolutely LOVE shining a light on the amazing women within our Staffordshire motorcycling community and today we’re giving a shout-out to Samantha Jones, a local Staffordshire female biker, who had been keeping a rather exciting little secret for the last few months…🤫

🎥 And there’s a pretty impressive bit of determination behind this one…

Samantha actually broke her foot just TWO DAYS before filming but there was absolutely no way she was going to miss out!

So she got back on two wheels, joined Michael Simon and Dom for what sounds like a brilliant day and even managed to make the out-takes… with Adrian Jones (her husband) making an appearance too! 😂

But there’s a challenge for you…

Please share to help other road users plan their Saturday morning journey, whilst we Ride To The Wall.

| Residents and motorists are advised that there may be some temporary traffic delays in Rugeley on Saturday (3rd October) morning as hundreds of motorcyclists take part in the annual Ride to the Wall (RTTW) event.

Riders are expected to set off from Wolseley Bridge Garden Centre at approximately 9:25am, travelling along the A51 before entering Rugeley via Wolseley Road, then along Western Springs Road and onto Horse Fair at around 9:33am, before continuing along Main Road and out of the town.

Ride to the Wall is a unique annual motorcycling event that sees thousands of bikers from across the country come together to pay their respects to the service personnel who have lost their lives in conflict since World War II. The ride culminates at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire and serves as a moving tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

If you're nearby, it's certainly a sight to behold, with hundreds of motorcycles passing through Rugeley as part of this well-supported event.

Please plan your journeys accordingly, allow a little extra time if travelling in the area, and if you do stop to watch, please do so safely and avoid standing in the road.

WOMEN ON WHEELS | MARIA COSTELLO MBE

18 weeks ago, Maria Costello MBE’s life changed.

Following a devastating crash during practice for the Sidecar TT races on the Isle of Man, Maria suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury at T5/T6.

For the first time since the crash, Maria has now spoken publicly about what has happened and what lies ahead.

And what makes this update so powerful is the honesty.

Maria doesn't know what her future will look like.

She doesn't know whether she will ride a bike again.

She doesn't know whether she will complete that TT lap.

But she does know one thing…

“I’m not stopping here and I’m going to fight to get to what I love.”💪🏼

Maria is now beginning to share her journey and her rehabilitation at the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Unit, with the incredible support of fans helping her through the hardest journey of her life.

Shaun her teammate is out of hospital and recovering well at home, although it is a slow journey with many challenges ahead for both.

If you want your passport returned, include a Large Letter stamped, self-addressed envelope.

If you don't want it returned and simply want to enter the prize draw, you can submit it without an envelope.

It's been a brilliant excuse to get out and explore, discover new places and enjoy plenty of good brews along the way.
