So at the weekend we sponsored a Cricket team to play in Standish Cricket Club 6’s competition…..let’s just say we are better at drinking than playing cricket!!

Huge shout out to Standish Cricket Club for putting the day on! And another fantastic local business Impressions Print and Embroidery for helping us out with the pink tops! Literally ordered and picked up next day! 🙏

It is well known by many in the village that the Chadwick family have been an integral part of the fabric of day to day life in Standish since the 1760’s.

They served the community with distinction over a great many years, and up to John’s retirement in 2019.

Chadwicks Fine Food Emporium was a flagship business in the village and is much missed amongst many, not only in Standish, but throughout the Borough.

However, what is less well known is that from Noel, to James/John to John/Paul, the Chadwick family have generously supported many charitable and not for profit organisations within Standish, and Standish Cricket club were no exception to the family’s benevolence.

Never once did they seek to court publicity or favour for what they did out of kindness and for the betterment of the village of Standish.

The village of Standish owes the Chadwick family, a great deal of thanks for all they contributed to the village over many many years.

This is particularly true of Standish Cricket club and who benefitted from cheese and ham for cricket teas to burgers and sausage for fundraising barbecues, nothing was ever too much trouble.

When some cheeky individual at the club enquired of John (no names mentioned) as to what might become of the cafe tables and chairs, he simply smiled and said you cheeky so and so, go on you can have them as it’s you who is asking.

Therefore, it is perhaps fitting that John’s memory is commemorated with a piece of furniture in the form of a particularly fine bench, an that can be enjoyed by many.

It is sad that John isn’t here today to see the new development, and the start of an exciting new phase of Standish Cricket Club.

However, his contribution and that of the Chadwick family will continue to live on in the memories of many of those associated with Standish Cricket Club.
