Our 1s succumbed to our 4th consecutive defeat in the league as we were well beaten by divisional leaders Thornton Cleveleys. Our hosts won the toss and chose to bat. Although Harrison made a breakthrough in the 2nd over, we found it tough going thereafter. Sackfield survived a tough chance to make 58 before Usman effected a run-out at the non-strikers end. Captain Jenkinson played a largely supporting role in 2 partnerships before opening his shoulders shortly before Harrison returned to knock back his off stump. A committed performance in the field and resilient bowling meant Thornton finished on 214-9, Harrison taking 4 wickets before seeing two tough chances grassed as he missed out on his first senior 5-fer.
We felt there were no major gremlins in the pitch and so our top order would make good progress towards the target. Our opponents had other ideas, though, as each of their 5 bowlers used found good areas and plenty of movement. The wickets were shared around as only three batters reached double figures and we ended up dismissed for just 85.

Our 2s performed in front of club photographer Stuart again, though it was the visitors from St-Annes who shone. Opening pair Sheppard and Burnett shared 9 wickets as we were bowled out for just 43 - Jacob Heaton showing some maturity to keep the innings alive before he was last man out for 12.
We needed a good start to defend that, and Jithin provided that in the 2nd over of the innings before Campbell took the aggressive approach to help reel in the target within just 8 overs.

Our 1s suffered a late defeat in an incredibly tight finish at Walton-le-Dale yesterday. A lively start saw us score 14 off the very first over, before the innings settled down a little. Zee was in aggressive form, though this aggression saw him caught at long on for 23 before our innings suddenly stalled. Zulli looked in good touch before becoming the 4th of 5 wickets for the persevering Matt Berry. A few contributions from our lower and middle order saw us creep up to 135, though we felt we really ought to have had a few more runs on the board.
The home side’s reply was similar to ours, as they went hard at anything with any width. Harrison comfortably out-bowled his senior opening partner and deservedly picked up 3 wickets in his opening spell. With the score on 75, our hosts were still favourites – but our tails were up and our intensity increased. Jami swapped ends to follow Harrison and found more joy, including removing the dangerous Mehfuz Patel and opening up the lower order. With Usman (3-16) proving tough to get away from the other end, Walton-le-Dale slipped to 108-9 and the game was in our hands. Parkinson strode out and showed an impeccable defensive technique to keep us at bay for a couple of overs. Then, out of nowhere, Meer struck 2 4s and a 6 from one Jami over and it was down to 8 runs or 1 wicket for the win. Parkinson did his job once again to keep out Usi, before unleashing his only shot of intent to drive Zee down the ground to secure an incredibly hard-fought win for his side.

At Green Lane, our 2s came up short against a strong Whittle & Clayton le Woods side. In Bath and Brooks, our visitors possess one of the stronger opening partnerships in the division and they combined to reduce us to 26-5. The fightback came in our middle order from Neil (27) and Ash (24) but with captain Evans keeping things tight from the other end, we were only able to limp to a total of 115.
Jacob made a breakthrough after a steady opening partnership saw off Jithin and Austin – but from there, opener Patel and captain Evans accelerated relentlessly towards their target. 6 bowlers were tried, and there were successes for Dan and Bobby, but our visitors completed a win by 7 wickets in the 30th over.

Our 1s suffered a disappointing setback on a warm day at Green Lane on Saturday. After choosing to bat on a good surface we lost Dave in the first over before Usi set about setting a platform with Zee, who was fit enough to return to an opening slot. Both combined watchfulness with efficiency against anything erring in line or length, though Usi picked out point when he was just threatening to get going. In strode captain Mitch and it was a repeat dose for us - shortly after depositing a dominant 6, he picked out mid off to leave us 75-3. Our middle order failed to fire and once Zee departed for a welcome 61, it was left to the lower order to get us up to a total of 185 that we felt was defendable.
Short of a few bowling options, we didn't look like we were going to miss them as Jami and Harrison were excellent with the new ball. Once SCC old boy Rajith was joined by Smith, we found the going tougher. While keeping a lid on the runs, the required rate never climbed much above 5s. Both set batters fell for 37, but Vamsi made the most of an early escape to lead his side home with an aggressive 45 not out.
In a tight division, we have lost 2 games that we had in our grasp, and should look to bounce back knowing that if we control the basics we can get ourselves a few wins to help us up the table.

Over at Hoghton, our 2s bowled out our hosts for just 80. After early wickets for Alex, Jacob proved too hot to handle, picking up 4 wickets. Jithin was excellent (3-8 from 7 overs) and there was a wicket for debutant Ash as we felt good at the interval. Sadly, the pitch was as tough for us to bat on as it had been for our opponents. Only Rhys and Jithin made double figures as Walli Ahmed ripped through us for 7 wickets as we fell 23 short.
