Your correspondent has been unable to post reports recently, so here’s a wee catch-up of recent results and performances.

Our 1s put in a dominant display to thrash New Longton on 11 July, and have got themselves out of the bottom three. It could have been even better yesterday but we fell agonisingly 1 run short of Grimsargh in a fantastic game. Jami’s 4 wickets failed to prevent our hosts from setting a daunting 230, but Usman’s 100 along with 41 from Mitch and 38 from Jami kept us in the hunt. We needed 7 from the final over but only managed 5.
There was great success in another nail biter as we beat St Annes in the semi final of the Loxham Cup. Usi (71) and Mitch (97) helped us to 256 from 40 overs. Our hosts chased brilliantly, but with each member of our team standing up when needed with ball or in the field, we held our nerve to secure a spot in the final on 9 August!

Our 2s have had 2 defeats but a great win yesterday. In defeat to Withnell Fold, we were encouraged by a fabulous spell of bowling from Andy before a maiden half century for Jacob helped us get close to our target though we fell ultimately short. Jacob was then the pick of our bowling attack at New Longton though we fell well short of a competitive target with the bat. Yesterday, Neil’s first 50 for the club - and first 50 since 2001 - got us started while Hadders followed up his unbeaten 89 at Penwortham with an unbeaten 90 against the same opposition as we racked up 207-5. Our visitors got off to a good start but, after Connor and Jacob applied the squeeze, skipper Rob got to with and recorded his maiden senior 5-fer as we closed out a win by 10 runs.

We will next be open on Friday 7th for the same purpose and then the first match with the pavilion will be Saturday 8th.
