SJ-Flies

Had one of those red letter days where the stars were all aligned. Went out to put the new nymphing rod through its paces and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
Fished a local river in an area that people don’t tend to go to, a place where you’ll never see a soul, be one with nature listening to the birds sing, watching the Dippers and Kingfishers dart up and down the river.

The stretch is a perfect scene for pocket water fishing catching wild brownies (and the odd Grayling that unusually made an appearance today). Fished with two nymphs 2.5mm coffee bead quilled olive on the point and my go to 2.3mm silver bead psycho green collared nymph.

Never lost a nymph or got into a tangle (which is extremely rare for me). Caught a ridiculous amount of fish, nearly every pocket produced a fish, granted most of them were small but it’s great sport on light gear keeping you on your toes for when the odd surprise appears out of nowhere and takes your fly.

Today wasn’t about numbers or catching the biggest fish but a long overdue mental reset that you can only get from that tug on the line.

A new rod has just arrived to add to the arsenal !

Tough day yesterday on the river Eden, very little activity on the water, clear skies and the warm weather put the fish into hiding even though there was copious amounts of fly life from Mayflies to Midge. Still managed to land a few on all methods but the target of a monster brownie will have to wait for another day

A surprise catch down the river this morning, put up a canny scrap on the 7ft 3 # rod
