First cup game of the season and another brilliant challenge for the Dons

With both teams playing each other just a couple of weeks ago, the game was set alight straight away.

A physical contest with the perfect mix of quality and passion. The atmosphere from both sets of parents was spot on, and as the game went on Buckland showed why they’re one of the top teams in this age group 👏

We let the players pick this week, giving them a little more responsibility.

Tyler has only just joined the club but already has a lot of potential. He’s got plenty of power and speed, and his relationship with the rest of the players is building match by match.

Can’t wait to see the levels he can reach this season

💔 Penalty Heartbreak!

The U10 Dons travelled to Kingskerswell this Sunday for their cup fixture.

Unfortunately, we were slow out of the blocks and found ourselves behind early on. However, the boys showed great character, found their rhythm and battled their way back into the game to draw level.

From there, it was end-to-end football, with both teams creating chances and giving everything to find the winner. Neither side could break the deadlock, meaning the game went to penalties.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be for the Dons this time, but the boys can be incredibly proud of their effort, determination and the way they fought right until the very end. ⚽️👏

A huge well done to everyone involved, and we wish Kingskerswell all the very best in the competition. 👏

On Sunday, the U12 Pumas took on Chudleigh in their first cup game of the season. We knew it was always going to be a tough one, with Chudleigh playing in the league above us, but unfortunately the result didn’t quite go our way.

In true Man United fashion, we’ve decided that one cup competition is enough for us this season… 🤦‍♂️

So, we’re out in the first round! Positives though, we can now put all our energy into the Plate and, of course, continuing to battle it out in the league.

Having the full squad available also meant we managed to get a brilliant photo of all the boys together!

Today’s Player of the Day goes to Ben! With our usual keeper currently out with an injured hand, Ben stepped up and volunteered to go in goal. And let’s be honest, being thrown in as goalkeeper against a team from the league above isn’t exactly the easiest way to spend a Sunday morning!
But Ben showed real courage, put himself forward for the team and gave it his best shot. That willingness to step up and do whatever is needed is exactly what being part of a team is all about.

Well done, Ben, and thank you!

Starcross Dons Gorgons U10 Girls

A brilliant away day for the Starcross Dons Gorgons U10 Girls, travelling to face Feniton and Axminster in two competitive fixtures.

The girls played some truly lovely football — linking up confidently, moving the ball with purpose, and finding the back of the net through great teamwork and creativity.

They also had to dig deep defensively, with opponents providing tough challenges that tested their resilience, positioning and bravery.

The coaches mixed things up throughout, rotating players into different roles, and the girls showed real spirit, flexibility and togetherness in every change.

🌟 Special Mentions

Emily — scored her debut goal, a brilliant moment and fully deserved.

Freya — earned Don of the Day for her work rate, awareness and impact across both games.

A huge thank you to Feniton for being fantastic hosts, and to our amazing parents for your continued support — every lift, cheer and sideline shout makes a difference.

U10s girls (sirens) match report.

First league away games of the season for the Sirens with two tough matches against Axminster and Feniton.

In the game against Axminster the Sirens had to withstand heavy pressure throughout the match but were able to make a couple of breaks down the field to keep the opposition honest. The Sirens showing they don't give up and kept together.

In the second game the Sirens again had to show character when they went into half time one nil down.

But the Sirens came out re-charged in the second half. Angel winning the ball in midfield, drove towards goal holding off defenders to blast one past the Feniton keeper.

Liv then got into the act and scored a couple of long distance goals after some tradenark dribbling. The sirens could have got more Ruby hitting the post after a great run and the Feniton keeper made some great saves. Other notable displays include
Tallulah being an absolute terrier in midfield and not letting the opposition have any easy ball in the middle of the park.

However, deservedly player of the day for Sirens was awarded to
Penny who played well again in defence and in goal but also after showing what she could do in midweek training did a sterling job up front for the team combining with the midfield to make chances. Special mentions also to Georgia who as Captain of the day showed great leadership and kindness on and off the pitch with her teammates. The sirens were also pleased to welcome Elsie back to the team this weekend. Although she couldn't play today, she gave great support and encouraged her squad mates through both matches. She even helped to keep match stats for the coaches! Watch out MOTD pundits/Statman Dave!

The under 8’s made the most of the September sun this afternoon as they headed down to the riviera for a league fixture.

It was a cracking game, with plenty of action and goals galore!

Player of day went to Yichen. He put in a terrific performance and set the bar for work-rate and determination.

Our under 16’s hosted Seaton this morning. First time in a few years since we have played them, and the lads knew we would have to be on it to get anything from the game.

The boys raced into a first minute lead through Harry O Hare and doubled the lead midway through 2nd half. Just on the stroke of half time the lads were undone by a long throw into the box which was knocked in after a flick on at the back post.

2-1 half time.

The lads came out in 2nd half and had a good spell of possession, with some lovely passages of play. Unfortunately we had nothing to show for It and it was the visitors that got back in the game. 2-2.

This set up a very entertaining end to the game where it looked like either team could nick it.

The game ended 2-2 and Definitely a case of well earnt point, rather than points dropped.

Fantastic team performance from the U12s this morning as they hosted Ottery St Mary in Devon and Exeter Division 2.

Two goals from Leo J and a nice header from Hudson made it 3-0 at the break. It was a closer second half before Beloved broke the line and slotted home for the 4th goal.

Dons of the Day were Isaac and Hudson 🏆🏆
It was hard to separate these two today so the coaches opted for a joint award.
Both showed great determination and attitude throughout the game. Hudson very unlucky not to score a headed brace, hitting the underside of the crossbar in the second half.

The U13s made it two home wins in succession with victory over Sidmouth

Dons dominated the first half and played some great passing football. Sidmouth utilised the huge kicks from their goalkeeper but Jack D and James dealt with them comfortably. Jack P started on the right of midfield and his touch and passing were fast class. His clever pass set Henry S on his way. There was still plenty to do but the strikerr cut inside the defender and finished well. Jack P was involved again as his ball into the box was handled and a penalty was awarded. Regular penalty taker Cobain scuffed his shot and the keeper saved but he was on hand to put away the rebound. Towards the end if the half there was a let of for Dons, as Sidmouth hit the bar from close range. HT 2-0

Sidmouth looked more of a threat in the second half but Dons continued to create chances. Jack P brought a good save from the keeper and Carter struck a post. Sidmouth had another good chance to score but Jack D pulled off a fantastic save with his feet. In the dying minutes Jacobs great run and cross set up Henry S but his goal bound finish was deflected off the line

The u13s worked on communication and tracking in training again this week and there was definitely improvement on the pitch in both areas

Jack's first touch and range of passing were superb today. He formed a formidable partnership with Archie G down the right side
