With the league fixtures delayed by a week while the playoff positions are finalised, the lads faced our Under-21s in what was always expected to be one of the toughest tests they'll encounter all season.
On a difficult grass surface, the boys battled hard during the first half but struggled to match the U21s in the final third. The older side capitalised on their chances and went into the break with a 3-0 lead, while the U19s were unable to find a response.
After a positive and determined half-time team talk, the lads came out with far greater intent and energy. They applied sustained pressure for long periods and looked much more competitive, but despite their efforts, they couldn't find the goal that would have brought them back into the match.
As the game wore on, fatigue began to show and the U21s' greater physicality and squad depth proved decisive. Three late goals in the final ten minutes gave the scoreline a harsh look that didn't fully reflect the commitment and effort shown by the U19s throughout the afternoon.
Today was never about the result. It was about building fitness, gaining valuable minutes on the pitch, and continuing to develop the team spirit and togetherness that will be so important in the months ahead.
Next week, it all gets real. πβ½
