Stenhousemuir FC - 2013/14 Girls

Today we welcomed league leaders Sauchie Reds to Ochilview and with a plus goal difference of 42 goals in 9 games we knew we would have to be on point to keep the score down to get anything out of the game and some more positional roulette was going to add to the challenge.

Having played them twice already this year the girls knew what to expect which encouraged us to get going right form the start. Doing this saw us take the league with great play moving the ball from right to left to allow Maisie to beat her players and finish well to keep her goals scoring run going.

We kept ourselves in front with some defending from Grace Donnelly (new centre half 😂) and Kadie and some fantastic goal keeping from (made the game just in time) Murron but Sauchie’s strength and power got them back level with a fine bullet finish just before the break.

The second half was much the same with both teams trying to win the game but the visitors numbers 6 and 8 started to pull the strings in midfield and combined with their speed and strength of their forward, they went ahead 2-1.

The girls kept their efforts going and pushed to get back level but wasn’t to be. Sauchie scored again with the last kick of the ball to make it 3-1 however we deserved something out of the game and take huge victory in not conceding a barrel load and pushing the undefeated side close.

POTM today was shared again as it is getting harder to pick out one player from our performances these days, but Lily and Kadie picked up the medals today.

Lily played the number 10 role perfectly today. She may not be the biggest player on the pitch however her touch, vision and passing linked our team together and kept us moving the ball well.

Kadie was outstanding again in the centre of defence. Her speed and strength is natural however her timing and reading of the game is something she is learning with every game and vital to how we play.

Another game and more plasters over more holes as the girls travelled to Gartcairn.

Girls playing out of positions again and last minute changes were always going to unsettle us however the sleeves were rolled up and they gave their all.

A rare mistake from Murron (she doesn’t want to talk about it😆) gifted Gartcairn an opener and they quickly doubled their lead as we were trying to find our feet.

Once we did we had great success moving the ball about and finding the wide players which allowed Maisie to work her magic and get two goals to get us back level in the game.

Parts of the second half we were good again, however 2 great strikes from outside the box high into the net and a bullet header from a corner by their no 16 that Vigil Van D**e would of been proud of, gave us an even tougher ask.

Zara got on the score sheet following a great run to pull us to 5-3 and as we push for more by moving Kadie up top we conceded 2 more.

Despite our struggles just now, girls are stepping up and trying new positions well outside their comfort zones. Special shout out to last weeks POTM, Aoife who played in three different positions, none of them her own💪🏻 and Sophie with 2 positions, again, none of her own.

We are playing football the right way and learning from our mistakes from each game, this will only do us well as we move forward.

POTM was Maisie who was outstanding once again. A constant threat down the wing utilising all of her skills and talent and got her first goals for us with 2 composed shots. 🏆

This weekend we travel to MTC Park in Airdrie to face another Gartcairn team and the girls looking to bounce back from last week.

Tomorrow sees our U16’s girls play in the league cup final and we just wanted to say a massive good luck to them.

When you step out onto that pitch, remember who you are. You have the skill, the determination, and the heart to go out there and show everyone exactly what you are capable of.

Look at the teammates standing beside you—trust each other, back each other up, and leave everything you have out on that field.

Next up we are at home again this coming Sunday where we face Gartcairn 14’s. A nearly full squad with girls returning from injury gets us underway for the second round of fixtures.

3 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw and a quarter final of the league cup is not a bad way to start our first season at 11’s.

Today saw the visit of Falkirk U14’s to Ochilview in what we knew would be a challenging game. We were at bare bones today with many players missing through injury, which meant girls had to play out of position, most notably Katarzyna at RB and Sophie at CB….but you wouldn’t know.

The message today was play our football, work hard and dig deep and that’s is what the girls delivered.

We took the lead early in the game and every time we were pulled back, we got ourselves back in front and closed out the game.

POTM was near impossible but to name a few. Sophie who is dropped in to CB settled in well and kept a solid line. Kadie who used her speed and strength to ensure Falkirk were kept out. Daisy and her fantastic hat trick and Murron with some huge, outstanding saves, but the medals go to Grace and Katarzyna.

Katarzyna played RB for the first time however it looked like she had played that role for years. She covered her team mates when required and was very comfortable when playing out from the back.

Grace who has gone from strength to strength this year and just gets better with every game. Slows the game down when needed and controls it when building from the back as well as picking out some defence splitting passes to set up her team mates. Well
done girls 🏆

This week is a special game to say the least.

Stenhousemuir FC - 2013/14 Girls take on Stenhousemuir Community Foundation - Girls Under-14's in our first league fixture after the summer break.

It has been rumoured that our coaching staff have been out hiding in bushes with their phones, recording training sessions and dressing up in disguise watching their games (allegedly) We cannot confirm or deny.

The 14’s are flying high at the moment with their recent plate win so we know how tough this game is going to be, however one we are looking forward to.

Tonight we welcomed Rossvale to Larbert High for a Friday night friendly and the girls knew we would have to be sharp for this one.

Rossvale started very strongly and had us penned in for the opening parts of the game however the girls managed to ride this out and start to knock the ball about. Making her debut tonight, Maisie was having great success down the left hand side where Grace was finding her with some very accurate passing and Lily spreading some great passes down the other side to Daisy.

The game was going back and forward however a powerful shot from outside the box gave Murron no chance and the visitors took the lead.

Some changes at half time but still the same intensity allowed us to continue to challenge well and creat our own chances to which a very impressive Rossvale goal keeper was equal to. After some great pressing from the front two the ball fell to Zara on the right who hit a first time shot over the keeper into the far top corner to level the game.

Both teams had chances to find a winner but the keepers had some big saves to allow the game to finish 1-1

POTM was a joint award tonight with Daisy who was a constant threat up from with her power and speed and Maisie, who was making her debut, on the left who just seams to glide past players with her incredible footwork and pace.

Really delighted with the game as Rossvale are a very good side and have booked their place in the league cup final. Good luck with the final girls and for the rest of the season.
