During the build and ongoing upgrades of our overland car, we’ve added a lot of small 3D printed parts 🧩

All parts are printed in PETG, chosen for its durability, heat resistance and suitability for in-car use.

Nothing extreme, but a lot of practical bits that make day-to-day life on the road much easier:

* cable clips to keep wiring clean and prevent rattles 🔌 (for example on back side of awning)
* sun visor / shade for the sat nav screen so it stays readable in direct sunlight 📱
* Xlifter controller mount for a solid and clean installation 🎮
* dashboard hook for small gear and everyday bits 🪝
* tow hitch cover clips usable without any tools. 🚙
* plus a few custom mounts and holders tailored specifically to our setup

Everything is designed around real use in the car, then quickly iterated and reprinted when needed.

Small details, big difference when you live and travel out of your vehicle.

What have you 3D printed for your own car setup? 🚗🧩
And if you haven’t yet, what’s the first thing you’d print if you had a printer?

Show your setups in the comments 👇 We’d love to see how others are solving these small but super useful details - always good inspiration for new ideas.

More prints and improvements coming soon 👀

While working on the rear bumper lights (check our previous post), we came across two unused marker lights… so we decided to put them to use on the roof rack 💡

The idea is simple - being able to see where we’re stepping in the dark, and making it easier to get things in and out of the boxes.

We chose standard bulbs instead of bright LEDs.
We prefer the warmer light, and they’re not blinding when accessing the roof from the ladder or sides and they illuminate the area more than enough.

Wiring was straightforward — we still had a few spare wires in the junction box on the rack, so it was just a matter of connecting them and assigning a fuse to an available switch on the control panel in the back.

Always nice when planning ahead pays off and makes future upgrades this easy 👌

We spent yesterday doing another upgrade - Lights 💡
We decided to replace rear reflectors with those 3 in 1 lights (reverse, tail, brake), and make them 6 in 1 !!!
Mainly we want to use them as camping lights to illuminate the ground behind the car when camping, but they can be used while driving too.
That’s why we wired them via 3 way switch (SPDT) so each light can either be running with vehicle tail lights/brake/reverse (using vehicle power), turned OFF, or turned ON manually from our control panel (powered from leisure battery).
We are very pleased with them (and yes, we will add red reflectors on the back somewhere to be legal 😉)

Afternoon trip to see a nearby dovecote 🕊️ built around 1340. Later, we stopped by the River Trent, made ourselves a nice cup of coffee ☕️ on the tailgate, and relaxed before heading home 🏠.

Ladder on a Discovery 4… essential or unnecessary? 🤔

Here’s a quick timelapse of us fitting the ProSpeed ladder—still going strong today.

What’s one mod you couldn’t live without?”

👉 What’s your favourite surface to drive on?

Mud, gravel, sand, snow… or something else?

Every surface has its own challenge.
Some are forgiving… some aren’t.

We just love sand and fresh snow —
more technical, more demanding, but way more rewarding when you get it right 👌🏻

👇 Drop it in the comments and tell us your favourite + why.
Let’s see which surface wins 🤩
