Does the stutter just pop out of no-where? You are speaking rather well and feeling quite pleased and all of a sudden the blocking, repetitions start.

I lost 15 years to stuttering! Why?
From an early age I was looking to fix, cure, stop, blah blah blah, the stutter. I gave my power to the speech therapist looking for a magic pill to get rid of the stuttering.
All my life I was looking to the world outside to fix the stutter. I was convinced there was something wrong with me. I went to many different speech therapy programs in at attempt to eradicate the stuttering. But at every turn the stuttering would reappear in my life.
I could not face up to the discomfort of stuttering. I was waiting for my stutter to disappear before living my dreams. What did I do?

Let’s play the ABC game. It’s A, of course! Cos I could speak to my cat aged 11 and not stutter and yet when an adult walked by the stuttering would erupt!

It was the birth of my son that released my stuttering mind.
I had started living 10 years ago. Prior to that I let the stuttering rule my life. I was forever worried about the opinions of other people. I could and would not stutter. I was so ashamed of stuttering that I was known as the Monk.
And I behaved like one.
What changed?

Have you thought about the thoughts that are in your stuttering mind?
Since the age of 8 I didn't want to stutter. It was the last thing I wanted to do and yet whenever I opened my mouth I wasn't sure if I would stutter or not. That was my default thought pattern.
I was so afraid, in fact terrified of stuttering that I was known as the silent one. Is that you?

Is the pain of stuttering big enough?
The pain of stuttering wasn't that big enough. I had been in speech therapy since the age of 8. I was Mr Avoid. Any situation that made me feel uncomfortable would result in avoidance, be it words, people and situations. 15 years went by and I suddenly woke up when I was 35. I lost 15 years to stuttering.
