Skills, Speed, and Non-Stop Action: Futsal Session 4 Recap!
The boys were back on the futsal court at Wallace High today, and what a session it was!
If you haven't watched futsal before, it’s hard to overstate just how fast, fun, and impactful this game is. Because of the tight court, every single player is constantly involved, racking up countless touches and making split-second decisions.
The growth we are seeing from session to session is incredible. Today, the boys showcased fantastic passing combinations, a brilliant understanding of space, and some wonderful individual skills that left everyone impressed.
We hope the boys loved the high-energy workout and are feeling the benefits in their overall game. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support today!

MATCH REPORTS
Blues 🔵 v Bannockburn
We took on Bannockburn this morning in a return fixture and the boys went head to head in there 2nd 11’s match of the season.
The boys started well and kept their shape well creating the early opportunity with a low drive from the edge of the box from Dougal giving the goalkeeper work to do to his low left hand side.
Bannockburn then started to take control of the early exchanges creating width and opportunities to keep Callan on his toes. We grew into the first half and then stared to match Bannockburn’s play. With Kai and Dougal holding up play they brought their team mates into the game as we pushed and finished strong in the 1st half.
With the team talk at half time and to keep doing much the same from the first half the boys took to the field with renewed confidence to battle hard.
2nd half started much the same however Bannockburn then had a few counter attacks and were dangerous from wide out putting pressure on our goal with a few good chances. Boys needed to step up. A break away from Olly on the left created an opportunity in the box and a shot on goal brought out a great save from the keeper to keep us out.
With the defence having put in so much effort tired legs were inevitable, and a speculative shot crept in at the front post to give Bannockburn the lead. This quickly then became two with a breakaway goal and good finish.
Heads started to drop and the boys were then under a few counter attacks but some good defensive work kept them out. We created a few more opportunities but just couldn’t get over the line by taking them.
Effort is always key, and team talk was all about it. Enjoy our football, never give in, turn up and give it your all, work as a team. We only ask you give 💯. Boys are understandably disappointed but we learn, adapt, keep doing what we do in training and keep giving our all and it will come.
Well done to Bannockburn and all the best moving forward

Maroons 🔴 v Dunblane
Today the Maroons welcomed Dunblane Phantoms for what is likely to be our final home game of 9-a-side football.
The first half was a competitive affair, with both teams creating chances and battling well across the pitch. Dunblane took the lead through a well-taken finish to go into the break ahead.
The Maroons started the second half strongly and turned the game around with two quick goals from Terry and Luca. Dunblane responded well and found an equaliser before both sides continued to push forward in an entertaining end-to-end contest.
There were chances at both ends, with both goalkeepers producing some smart saves to keep the scores level.
Thank you to Dunblane Phantoms for a great game and we wish them all the best as they move on to 11-a-side football.

Cumbernauld Colts v Whites ⚪️
After a week off, it was a trip to Broadwood stadium today for the Whites. We started with real initiative and took the game to the Colts, so it was no surprise when the Whites struck first. Angus played in Charlie, who calmly rounded the keeper to finish. Another link up a few minutes later with the same two players and Charlie fired home again. Lucca, Finn and Lennon have formed a great defensive formation and were cohesive in snuffing out any threats from Colts and due to the high press were able to push into midfield at times. As a result, Lucca played a lovely through ball after waltzing past a couple of defenders and Charlie said thanks very much as he completed his hat-trick. Then a mini moment of madness when the defence switched off briefly allowing a long ball over the top to be taken on by two Colts players who between them made no mistake in pe***ng a goal back.
Into the second half and the Whites were back on the attack. With Scotland’s impending appearance in the World Cup next week, it seemed only fitting to have a stramash in front of the goal and our very own poacher Harry was there before the keeper could get near the ball to prod home. The Whites were getting into their stride and the plays were flowing. Charlie was in again for a couple. Bailey, who was getting faster as the game went on was beginning to torment the defence and deservedly scored a beautifully executed goal. Colts tried to get forward and were really not willing to give up but even when our defence didn’t stop their attack we even had a fabulous two handed save. Unfortunately, this was near the half way line and resulted in a yellow card. It seemed harsh but I guess the potential fine for one of our upstanding coaches might be a topic of discussion at the dinner table tonight. Next Myko, who was a bundle of energy as ever, turned a couple of defenders inside out in the box before despatching the ball past the advancing keeper for a delightful piece of individual brilliance. Harry then had a fine finish to complete the Whites scoring for the day. There was time for one more incident and frustratingly another defensive lapse of concentration allowed the Colts to scramble the ball home.
Today, we saw both the good and bad from the Whites but in general it was a thoroughly enjoyable watch and result. The boys just need to keep their concentration levels and that would have been the perfect performance. Also, one final point. I’m not sure whether Charlie’s inside out shorts will catch on as a fashion statement but after today’s performance in front of goal it will be a dilemma he has to contend with before next week’s final game of the season.
Thanks to Cumbernauld Colts for a game played in good spirits. Well played today and all the best for the season’s finale next week.

Better late than never match report from last weekend. Keep the streak going 🤣
Match Day 13 – Maroons v Dunipace
Last weekend the Maroons welcomed Dunipace for what turned out to be a real game of two halves.
Our boys started with real purpose and could have taken the lead inside 30 seconds when Seb's close-range effort struck the post.
The pressure continued and the boys were rewarded with three excellent goals – a well-taken finish from Lucas and two composed strikes from Terry. We continued to dominate and were unlucky not to add further goals before the break.
Late in the first half, Dunipace pulled a goal back with a well-taken finish that completely changed the momentum of the game.
Dunipace came out strongly in the second half, scoring an excellent goal from distance and creating several chances. Robin was in outstanding form, producing a number of excellent saves to keep us in front.
Credit to Dunipace for a great game and for pushing us all the way. It really was a game of two halves. We wish them the very best for the remainder of the season.

MATCH REPORT
OTB Leopards v Riverside Blues 🔵
We travelled today for an early kick-off at the Glasgow Club Palace of Art to play On The Ball Leopards.
The first half was a tactical battle between two evenly matched teams. Both sides had two good goal-scoring opportunities, but neither managed to hit the back of the net. The football was positive and the quality from both sets of players was high, which was pleasing to watch—though perhaps a bit too polite and respectful.
The second half truly came alive as both teams pushed for the win; nobody was settling for a 0-0 draw. It became clear that this was a match that would be decided by whoever got the breakthrough.
Unfortunately for us, it was On The Ball who found it. Following the goal, Riverside fought hard to equalise and came close, but a lack of intensity in a few positions left us vulnerable to the counter-attack. On one of those breaks, On The Ball killed the game off.
These were two very similar teams in many elements of the game. While it was a balanced battle, considering the overall effort and desire, it was a fair scoreline in favour of the team that wanted it just a bit more.
This is an important lesson for the boys: nothing in life comes easy, and nobody will hand it to us on a silver platter. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard—and today, On The Ball brought both.
Congratulations to On The Ball, and good luck for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Alloa Wasps v Riverside Maroons 🔴 -
This morning the maroons travelled through to Alloa for what was sure to be a competitive encounter.
The opening exchanges were even with neither team able to get a real foothold in the game with the game starting as a midfield battle.
Once the teams settled we saw some great play as both sides moved the ball quickly producing some great passing moves.
As the half went on the boys began to control possession and territory, playing large parts of the game in Wasps half with Isaac’s range of passing keeping us on the front foot, stefans power and drive creating opportunities and a real strong work ethic from all of the boys not giving Wasps any time on the ball.
As sometimes happens in these situations it was Wasps who took the lead with a clinical counter attack, breaking fast and playing a ball through to their dangerous striker to finish beyond Ayan.
Despite the setback the boys didn’t let their heads drop and continued to press forward and they were soon rewarded, Luca causing havoc down the left playing provider for Terry with an instinctive finish. Terry scored his 2nd soon after as Wasps were unable to clear their lines.
The second half was an even affair, Wasps coming out with real intent and the boys working to increase their lead. Both teams stretched the play using the parameters of the pitch creating a real showpiece end to end spectacle.
The last 5 minutes was intense with Wasps taking control of the game and the boys having to weather attack after attack. This is a side of the game the boys having naturally developed over the season, staying resolute, working together and knowing that they can rely on each other when the going gets tough.
A hard fought game against a strong Wasps team. Good luck to Wasps for the remainder of the season.

Riverside Whites ⚪️ v Milngavie United
Today we had Milngavie United as visitors on a beautiful sunny morning, perfect for football. The early exchanges were pretty even and if anything, we were just shading it. However, chances were at a premium with defences on top. As the half wore on, Milngavie were causing us trouble at the back. Their willingness to run at our defence and get support from midfield was clear. After some good movement down the right wing, they found an unmarked player in the box and he squeezed a shoot under Robin despite his best efforts.
This seemed to galvanise the visitors and we were on the backfoot for the remainder of the half. Robin made a fantastic double save which was followed up by two more saves in one on one situations.
Unfortunately, the second half was a bit of a disappointment. We struggled to match Milngavie’s work rate and willingness to get around the pitch. We conceded two almost identical goals where Milngavie exposed the gap between our midfield and defence; the striker whipped a shot over the keeper into the top corner from outside the box. Both were good finishes, so similar that one of our coaches was very much convinced that it was the same goal.
In fairness to the Whites despite their heads dropping, they kept at it. Eventually, the defence was exposed and Charlie was found at the back post. He stayed composed and passed the ball into the corner. We then had a clear shout for a handball in the last minute which apparently looked like a head from another angle, despite the Milngavie supporters expecting a penalty. It would have been nothing more than a consolation and in fairness, a bit flattering to the score line.
It is clear that the teams in this league have seen the Whites as the team to beat after a very strong first half to this campaign. If the boys haven’t noticed yet, all the teams in recent games are throwing the kitchen sink at us.
We have stood up well at times recently but inconsistency and being outmuscled in games will only end in one result. We need to bring the best version of ourselves each week and work as a unit. That is what has put us in such good stead to this point. The Whites have had a great season and it will not be defined by one off results. Let’s get back on the wagon and finish the season showing exactly how good we are because when we’re on our A game we play some fabulous football.
Thanks to Milngavie United for a great game. Well played today and all the best for the rest of the season.

MATCH REPORTS
Riverside Blues 🔵 vs Stenhousemuir Maroons
A beautiful grass pitch, blue skies over the Forth Valley, and a Saturday morning kickoff against Stenny—football doesn't get much better than this. It was a massive weekend for the visitors, with their senior side playing Alloa for a Championship spot and their 2014s traveling to face the mighty Riverside.
The match lived up to the hype. Both teams wanted to play proper football, battling hard while showing great mutual respect. Stenny started the brighter of the two, dominating the opening exchanges, but a clinical Riverside goal completely turned the tide. The remainder of the half was a showcase of fantastic quality from both squads.
Stenny came out flying after the break, pushing hard for a comeback. A few lapses in concentration and moments of disorganisation cost us, allowing the visitors to deservedly take the lead. After some quick adjustments, Riverside settled back down, wrestled back possession, and carved out two excellent late chances, though the elusive equaliser just wouldn't come.
Result aside, this was a brilliant advertisement for youth football. Two fantastic teams focused on player development and continuous improvement.
Well done to Stenny, best of luck for the remainder of the season, and we look forward to testing ourselves against you when we move up to 11-a-side.

Riverside Maroons 🔴 v Carbrain Clarets
Today we welcomed a really good Carbrain Clarets side to the Uni for a hotly anticipated encounter. Both teams are having strong seasons and, from previous matches, we knew it would be an entertaining game between two sides focused on trying to play football the right way and developing their players.
As expected, the game started with great intensity, with both teams eager to get on the ball and impose themselves. We took the lead early on following a looping free kick from Luca that unfortunately came off a Carbrain defender, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
The goal didn’t faze Carbrain and, as expected, they showed great grit and determination to work themselves back into the game. They pinned us into our own half for spells and created a number of dangerous opportunities. The boys defended really well during this period and still looked a threat on the counter, with Taylor’s direct running through the middle almost doubling our lead.
Carbrain eventually found an equaliser following a dangerous free kick that Ayan could only parry, with the rebound finished well.
To the boys’ credit, they responded almost immediately. The impressive Carbrain goalkeeper produced a really good save to deny us, but this group has shown all season that they keep going, and Terry reacted quickest just before half-time to score an excellent individual goal.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with both teams battling hard, playing good football and bringing the best out in both goalkeepers. The Carbrain goalkeeper produced one of the saves of the season, getting brilliantly down to his left to deny Terry.
A big thanks again to Carbrain for another excellent game played in the right spirit. We wish them all the best for the remainder of the season and look forward to meeting again at 11s football.

Carbrain Navy v Riverside Whites ⚪️
This week we had a Friday night away fixture for the Whites in Cumbernauld against Carbrain Navy. It was an overcast evening with some pesky midges in the air. Not to mention my pre-match nerves after my questionable journalism last week, where I failed to credit Finn with a wonderful goal.
Anyway, the game started and the Whites looked to find their rhythm early as they pushed Carbrain back. We were having particular joy down the right wing and won several corners, from which Lucca produced lovely deliveries. However, it was credit to Carbrain’s willingness to work hard that basically forced the Whites in to long range efforts. The first half continued in this vein with Navy looking to catch us on the break. Then in the last minute of the first half Lennon was found on the edge on the box and calmly lobbed the keeper.
Into the second half, Lennon, boosted by his goal broke through the middle of the park onto a through ball, but a last-ditch tackle deflected his shot wide as he entered the box. Then in a goalmouth scramble from another of Lucca’s dangerous deliveries Bailey poked the ball home. The Whites were now playing some beautiful football. Navy refused to buckle but the Riverside back three refused to allow them to play. Bailey then followed up on some nice interlinked play and fired the ball home. The boys were now threading the ball through the midfield with the front players continually making runs off each other. The sun had come out and the drizzle and midges had departed. Chances were coming thick and fast. Angus, Findlay and Myko all hit the same post only for Harry to break the sequence and smash the ball off the crossbar. Bailey then won a penalty and Marc despatched it into the top corner. Bailey then followed up with a really composed finish after another flowing move to get himself a well-deserved hattrick. The action was not over. Angus frustrated after a debatable offside goal, had a quick turn and fired a low daisy cutter into the far corner of the goal.
Possibly the best performance this season from the Whites. Certainly in the second half, the Whites had the perfect balance. The high press, the shape of the team, the energy and fight… it was all there. In particular, tonight we saw all of the players bringing their own energy and personality to the fore but even more importantly they played for each other. There is a strength growing in this group of players and a fluency and continuity when the subs come on. Carbrain are a decent team but Riverside did not give them time on the ball to do any damage.
Thanks to Carbrain Navy for a great game and all the best for the rest of the season.
