🥋 Re-fresh Friday – Technique: Side Piercing Kick (Yeop Chagi) 🥋
The Side Piercing Kick (Yeop Chagi) is one of Taekwondo’s most powerful linear kicks, driving forcefully through the target with precision and strength. Unlike a snapping kick, Yeop Chagi uses hip rotation, pivot, and the back leg muscles to generate maximum impact.
Key Elements to Remember:
✅ Strong pivot of the supporting foot (around 75° outward)
✅ Linear motion of the kicking leg
✅ Toes slightly down, striking with the foot sword
✅ Power generated from the back muscles and hip rotation
Ex*****on Steps:
1️⃣ Stance: Start in a fighting stance, body angled slightly sideways.
2️⃣ Chamber: Lift the knee diagonally across the body, keeping space from the base leg.
3️⃣ Torso & Hip Rotation: Rotate the torso 90°, turning the hip over the supporting foot.
4️⃣ Pivot: Pivot the supporting foot outward (about 75°), heel grounded.
5️⃣ Linear Extension: Drive the leg straight into the target.
6️⃣ Foot Position: Toes down, striking with the foot sword.
7️⃣ Impact & Return: Strike through the target, then retract, guard up, and reset.
💥 Yeop Chagi isn’t just about strength — it’s about precision, timing, and control. Mastering this kick makes you stronger in both sparring and self-defense.
Who’s ready to sharpen their Yeop Chagi this week? 👊🥋
