ROVERS LOOK TO NEW SEASON AFTER MOST CHALLENGING PERIOD.

This week sees the end of season 22/23 for the Rovers in what has been a most challenging season culminating in relegation from the Caledonian League Premier Division and the Rovers now look forward to the close season planning getting under way for the restart of football for season 23/24.

The Rovers committee and coaches have decided to embark on trying to introduce a new squad with a combination of youth and experience as we endeavour to be competitive again at amateur level.

Rovers officials have been in discussion with the GSR Central Academy for months exploring the possibility of either entering a team into the 19’s Youth league as a Cambusbarron Rovers development team or taking the players into the Caledonian League side. We have decided that with so many of the GSR players moving on it would be best to incorporate the young players within the Rovers squad for next season in the Caledonian League Championship.

Former Scotland internationalist Dave McPherson who is club president of GSR said, “We set up the Academy to offer the opportunity for talented players to work towards getting a university scholarship to the USA. We have four leaving the team this year and a further four planning on going in August 2024. The four who are not going to the USA this year and the other talented players want to stay together as part of a team, and we are pleased to be giving them the opportunity to work and progress with Cambusbarron Rovers. The coaches at GSR will also be joining the Rovers coaching staff and they will all be involved in looking at different ways on how the team can progress and some innovative measures for a team at amateur level are in the pipeline.

So that explains where the youth side of player requirement will predominately be from, obviously the search for experienced players who would like to be part of the team is also ongoing. Some of the current Rovers squad will move on but a few have committed themselves to next season and everyone realises there is a lot of hard work to be done right across the board but all involved are relishing the thought of getting into it.

As far as the committee is concerned they will push on with some major fundraising to allow improvements to enhance the existing set up and improve it even more for the resumption of the new season.

It is the GSR Central Academy Awards and celebration night!

GSR Central Academy run out of steam in Cup Final

We hoped that our last ever game as GSR might bring us a victory but sadly on a very warm day we just ran out of steam.

Congratulations to Lenzie for winning the trophy!

The last ever GSR Central Academy match will be the CSFA Divisional Cup Final against Lenzie FC.
