🏋🏽♀️ WHAT’S THE BEST EXERCISE FOR [INSERT MUSCLE GROUP]? 🤷🏻♂️
Probably one of the most commonly asked questions in fitness.
The answer is simple: ALL of the exercises. Also, NONE of them. 🤔
Almost ANY exercise can be beneficial and effective. ✅
By the same token, ANY exercise can be ineffective and dangerous. 🚫
When it comes to exercise selection, CONTEXT IS KEY.
WHY are you implementing it?
HOW does it fit into a wider PLAN?
It is the PROGRAMME that will deliver results, NOT the EXERCISE.
Train with a PLAN 👍
🏋🏽♀️ SQUAT PROGRESSIONS 👍
I give you THE GOBLET BOX SQUAT. Page 1 of How to Squat.
(complete with horrendous backing music).

🏋🏽♀️ Today marked the start of OPERATION PHOENIX 🦅🔥
A desperate attempt from a mid-30s working Dad (namely, me) to recapture the modest athletic glory of his 20s.
I was in two minds about whether to post this, firstly because it could be misconstrued as another coach or trainer posting self-promoting workout videos, which is no help to anybody 🤷🏻♂️
Secondly, and more importantly, people have a tendency to cobble together programmes from cool s**t they see on Instagram, and I don’t want to contribute to that.
This workout is just ONE piece of a MUCH bigger PLAN, that is SPECIFIC to me and my goals ✅.
Whatever you do in the gym, make sure you have a PLAN 📈.
📆 DAY 1 - High Day.
🔥 Dynamic Warm Up - 15 mins
▶️ A1 - Box Jumps 4 x 5 @ 90%
▶️ B1 - Trap Bar Bulgarian Split Squat 4 x 3 (6s lower)
▶️ B2 - Barbell Jump Squats 4 x 3 @ 50% BW
▶️ C1 - Glute Ham Raise 4 x 3 (6s lower)
▶️ C2 - Anti Extension Core 4 x 8-10
▶️ D1 - Density Circuit (10 mins) - Horizontal Push / Horizontal Pull / Sled Push
EPISODE #1 - “Keeping your chest up” is BAD advice 🤦🏻♂️
Watch my incredibly awkward and badly cut video to find out why.
Give me a shout if you have any questions. Alan.

🤷🏼♂️ HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN? 🏋🏻♂️
Other than perhaps ‘have you shaved between your eyebrows?’, I get asked this question several times a week.
Not to sound like a politician, but ‘one size fits nobody’ when it comes to training and there is a multitude of permutations that affect what any one persons training programme should look like.
HOWEVER in most cases and especially with working parents (I know!), assuming availability to train is the main variable, the above should serve as a useful guide for you👌🏽
I will say one thing though that I see people get wrong time and time again;…..BE REALISTIC!!
If you can train 3…’maybe 4 times’ per week at a push. That means you can train THREE TIMES per week. Anything else is a BONUS.
Otherwise, you will drop important sessions and you won’t get the frequency or volume required for growth.
If your circumstances do change and you can train more often, great. You can move on up the frequency ladder!
Hope this helps.
