๐Ÿ’ช Week 5 brought plenty of progressions of the exercises, with some great progress seen! Fantastic effort everyone ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Howโ€™s your balance ?๐Ÿค”

In our Physio-Led Pilates classes we always include standing exercises which challenge our balance ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป
๐Ÿฆต๐ŸปWe often donโ€™t test our balance until we lose it and have a wobble or fall over
- As we all get older good balance is essential to reduce our risk of falls and injury
- Balance exercises are also really important to help maintain bone density ๐Ÿฆด
- Improved balance can also reduce your risk of injury during sporting activities ๐ŸŽพ ๐Ÿ‰ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ€ โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ
- Balance exercises can be practised through the day, standing on 1 leg whilst brushing your teeth ๐Ÿชฅ or making your โ˜•๏ธ (remember to hold on for support to begin with)
- Give yourself a goal I.e. 5 seconds on each leg and increase to 10 seconds as able.

Another Super Saturday of Physio-Led Pilates Classes ! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Hereโ€™s a great example of how to build strength & endurance in the quadriceps (thigh) an gastrocnemius & soleus (calf) muscles
โœ… Feet wider than hips and toes turned out
โœ… Ensure level pelvis and maintain position throughout
โœ… Keep your chest lifted
โœ… Choose how low you want to go down and hold your squat (lower = more strength & ๐Ÿ”ฅ in those muscles)
โœ… Hold squat position and slowly lift one heel up and then down on each side Repeat x6
โœ… Then both heels up and down at same time x6
๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป To build the endurance repeat x2-3 sets and get those legs feeling ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

โ„๏ธ This time of year can be particularly difficult for many reasons.
โ˜€๏ธ As a summer person I always struggle with the dark mornings and evenings. It really can affect your energy levels, mood & motivation.
๐Ÿ“ฃ These are my top tips for maintaining well being during the dark, colder months:

โœ… Exerciseโ€ฆ.. Exercise โ€ฆโ€ฆ. Exercise
When we exercise we produce feel good chemicals in the body ๐Ÿ’Š Endorphins & Serotonin ๐Ÿ’Š these chemicals boost our mood & have a role in managing pain.
๐Ÿ”†Any movement is good movement!!!

โœ… Try and get some natural daylight โ˜€๏ธ Even just a 10 minute walk outside can be enough to give us a boostโ€ฆ. A short walk at lunch time can feel really good ๐Ÿ˜Š

โœ… Stay hydrated โ€ฆ. Our bodies are 75% water ๐Ÿ’ง so if we are dehydrated this can affect all of our body systems, especially our thinking & concentration ๐Ÿง 

โœ… Fuel yourself wellโ€ฆ.. ๐Ÿฅ• Slow release foods can be helpful to sustain energy such as non-starchy vegetables (e.g. cauliflower, broccoli and spinach) brown rice, oats, cereals, nuts and seeds. ๐Ÿฅฆ ๐Ÿฅœ
