“I didn’t recognise myself after two pregnancies. I was struggling with the basics – just moving felt hard. But then I found Marianna and Mpowered Fitness.”
“Her classes quickly became the highlight of my week. Not just for me – my baby loved them too. There was something special about that space. It was friendly, supportive, completely non-judgmental. Getting back into exercise didn’t feel like another thing I was failing at.”
“It felt like coming home.”
“By 9 months postpartum, I was honestly amazed. Not just at what my body could do, but at how I felt again.”
“Like myself. Strong. Capable. Seen.”
“The time I invested in my recovery with Marianna? It was one of the best decisions I made as a new mum.”
Thanks to Heather for sharing her story. Share this to encourage another mum who might not be feeling herself right now.
If you’re interested in joining one of our classes this term we have a couple of places left. Just check out the link in bio for availability.

Let me introduce you to Julie.
On the 31st of May, Julie is running the Manchester 10k in memory of her mum who she sadly lost in March.
Having not run for sometime, Julie came to me to help her improve her strength and running fitness/endurance. It hasn’t been an easy time but Julie has already achieved so much and it has been my absolute pleasure to support her in this. But now I’d like your help!
This has been and continues to be a physical and emotional challenge, and I would love it if we could get behind her in supporting the charity who helped her as an unpaid carer to navigate the dementia journey with her mother.
Signpost for Carers is an independent local charity who have been supporting carers for more than 30 years in Stockport, aiming to improve their quality of life.
You can support Signpost for Carers and Julie by sponsoring her 10k here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/julie-h-15?utm_source=SFMC&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=FR-heroes_FRPo_Event-near-badge_uk&mi_u=5851018&mi_ecmp=FR-heroes_FRPo_Event-near-badge_uk
I’d love it if we as a community could smash her target. Thank you!!

The six-week GP check is not a green light to exercise after birth.
It never was.
Neither is waiting for that appointment a reason NOT to start exercise.
For too long, we’ve treated that appointment as clearance. As permission. As the moment women are finally “allowed” to move their bodies again.
But women don’t need permission. They need information.
Because the women showing up to postnatal classes aren’t a homogeneous group who all had straightforward births and six weeks of peaceful recovery. They’re women who experienced birth trauma. Women who had major abdominal surgery and were home within days. Women who are 4 weeks postpartum, desperately wanting to move in a way that supports their recovery and their mental health. Women who are 6 months postpartum and feel they’ve missed the window to improve their pelvic floor.
None of that is good enough.
And “as long as you’re cleared to exercise, you can come along”? That’s not good enough either.
The 2025 Canadian Postpartum Exercise Guidelines (Davenport et al., British Journal of Sports Medicine) are clear: return to exercise must be individualised, gradual, and symptom-based. Not calendar-based. That means fitness professionals working with postpartum women have a responsibility to screen, to ask, to understand — before someone walks through the door.
I’ve known this from seven years of working with new mums. Now we have the research to support it.
Women deserve an informed, individualised approach to postnatal recovery and return to exercise. That’s not a luxury. It’s the standard.
It’s what Mpowered Fitness is built on.

9 out of 10 pregnant women aren’t meeting the movement guidelines.
Not because they don’t want to. Because they’re scared they’ll harm their baby.
This one’s for every woman who has held back, been told to “take it easy,” or just wasn’t sure. Because when you know the evidence you get to choose - make an informed choice, not one from a place of fear.
A systematic review of 135 studies — 166,094 women across 32 countries — found that exercise in pregnancy:
→ Does not cause premature birth
→ Does not cause low birth weight
→ Reduces the risk of babies being born dangerously large by 39%
→ Has no negative effect on your baby’s long-term development
Your body was built to move. Pregnancy doesn’t change that. And yes, I know pregnancy itself is an endurance sport and that prioritising rest is just as important, but we have to shout about the benefits of exercise in pregnancy so that those who can move, do.

This guidance applies to healthy pregnancies without complications. If you have any concerns, always check with your midwife or GP first.
Not sure whether exercise is safe for you? DM the word SCREEN and I’ll send you the free health screening tool from the It takes two minutes and gives you clarity.
We run pre- and postnatal classes in Stockport — designed for your body, backed by evidence. DM if you want to know more 😊
