A terrific day last Sunday for our U8 Yellows in the Spurley Hey Tournament.
Off to a slow start losing our opening game 1-0, the boys gradually began to improve with a win and 2 draws in their remaining opening group games.
In the next group stage, the boys found their feet playing some terrific football with lots of goals and finished top of their group with 2 wins and 2 draws.
Onto the semi-final, in a close game, a fine individual goal by Riley was the difference, so the boys made it to the final for the 2nd year running.
After winning in the final last year, unfortunately, it wasn't to be this year as we narrowly lost out 1-0.
We're proud of all 8 boys who each contributed to a rewarding and successful day.
Well done, Yellows 💛

Spurley Hey U8 Yellows | Easter Tournament Highlights
With no league fixtures over the weekend, Spurley Hey U8 Yellows took on a new challenge in the MYSL Capelli Easter Tournament.

Placed in the Medium to High group, they were up against teams from two divisions above – but rose to the occasion brilliantly. They led in both of their opening matches, which ended in draws, before narrowly losing to the eventual tournament winners in game three. The boys responded superbly, finishing their group stage with a confident win.

A 3rd-place group finish set up a quarter-final clash against a strong MYSL Championship side. Despite a close contest, the team just missed out in a narrow 1-0 defeat.

It was a hugely positive day for the Yellows, who showed great resilience, quality, and teamwork throughout. With a bit more luck, they might have gone even further – but they can be proud of their performance against some top opposition.

U8 Yellows Impress in League Thriller

What a performance from our U8 Yellows today!

Facing tough opposition who’d beaten us convincingly earlier in the season, the boys stepped up and delivered one of their strongest team displays to date.

We challenged them to match last week’s intensity and be more clinical in front of goal—and they absolutely rose to it! From the first whistle, the boys pushed forward with purpose, driving the opposition back and creating chance after chance.

Theo showed real improvement with his quick distribution from the back, Ernie and Henry stood firm in defence while launching attacks, Riley’s energy saw him cover every blade of grass, and Eli pressed high to win the ball back. Teddy and Rory were relentless on the wings—both creating and finishing chances brilliantly.

A superb all-round effort. The progress is clear for all to see—well done, Yellows!

U8 Blues Dig Deep for Deserved Win

A strong and determined display from the U8 Blues today in another tough match, showing great control from start to finish.

The boys dominated much of the play and adapted well to a physical opposition, staying composed and sticking to the football we’ve been working on in training. Despite creating several well-worked chances early on, the breakthrough didn’t come easily.

We went into the break ahead, but a brief lapse allowed the opposition to level things up. Credit to the boys though—they found that extra space and quality to grab a decisive third goal.

A really solid performance all round. Great effort, Blues!

Well done Clarets 💜

Character, Commitment & Comeback!
Brilliant Performance from the U8 Clarets ❤️⚽️🛡️

A fantastic display from Spurley Hey U8 Clarets this afternoon as they battled to a well-earned draw against a team who had previously scored heavily against them earlier in the season.

It was a cagey opening, with some excellent defending from Oscar and Jason, while Elliott produced a couple of outstanding saves to keep things level.

The opposition eventually broke through with two quick goals, but from that moment it was all Clarets — who finished the first half strongly, going close through Oscar and Vinnie.

The second half started just the way the Clarets ended the first — on the front foot and full of energy. Their efforts were finally rewarded when Parker drove through midfield and showed brilliant composure to set up George T ⚽️ for a clinical finish off the post.

The opposition responded, but the Clarets stood tall — with a crucial tackle from Oscar and a fantastic one-handed save from Elliott preventing them from extending their lead.

As time ticked away, up stepped Louis ⚽️ with a thunderous strike into the bottom corner to level the game — a fitting reward for a superb team performance.

Every single player left everything on the pitch today in a performance full of effort, maturity, and a brilliant team spirit.

A display they should all be very proud of!

Battling Display from the U8 Yellows
Effort, Passion & Progress 💛⚽️💪

A fantastic game of football this morning as Spurley Hey U8 Yellows took on a strong Ashton on Mersey Chameleons side.

Having suffered a heavy defeat in the previous cup meeting between the teams, the Yellows knew they’d need to be at their best — and they certainly stepped up.

It was a close contest from start to finish, with Spurley Hey on the front foot for large spells. Their intensity, physicality and shape were excellent throughout, and some brilliant passing moves created plenty of chances — only to be denied by a superb goalkeeping display from the opposition.

Riley ⚽️ found the net for the Yellows, and although the boys were disappointed not to get a result, their performance showed how far they’ve come. Every single player gave their all and should be really proud of their efforts.

🔥 A tough game for the Blues today, but through sheer determination and grit, they made sure their hard work paid off!

⚡ The boys have really stepped up in recent weeks, and the team spirit has grown massively. That togetherness is showing in their performances, and today was no exception.

⚽ Some brilliant team moves led to well-worked goals, while the defending was just as impressive, with strong tackles keeping the opposition at bay.

💪 Every single player battled for each other, and it was fantastic to watch!

Tough morning for the Clarets 💜 well done boys we go again! 💪🏽

🔥 A Lesson in Football for the U8 Clarets! 🔥

⚡ The boys played their part in a real thriller this morning! A lightning start saw Parker bag an early double before some fantastic pressing and neat passing set up Louis to add a third. Our opponents pulled one back just before the break, setting up a tense second half.

🔄 A reshuffle saw some players in unfamiliar positions, and after a slow start, our determined opponents battled back to level the game. That led to a frantic final few minutes—Elliot pulled off some brilliant saves, while Vinny, Louis, and Jason all went agonisingly close to finding a winner.

⏳ Then, with the last kick of the game, a long ball from the opposition keeper caused chaos, and the ball was squeezed past Elliot. A tough way to finish, but the boys can hold their heads high!

💪 A harsh lesson, but one that will only make them stronger. Proud of the effort today!

⚽ Louis
