had organised a series of Nearest the Pin Competitions.
The Winners assembled for the Final Shoot
Out on Saturday 2nd May at 5.30pm.
The Prize £1000 to spend in the Pro Shop.
A crowd of spectators gathered around the 18th Green.
Jamie marshalled the Finalists on the 1st hole Red Tee.
Dillon McPhee announced the Competitors on the Tannoy.
James Morris recorded the Distances.
Freddie Lye and Dave Storey were on the Measuring Tape.
The Crowd were entertained with some excellent shots and some classic banter.
The Winner at 2 foot and 10 inches was Steve Simpson.
Steve was delighted to win and had a smile that even a pint of lemon juice wouldn’t remove.

A very impressive course maintenance week setting us up for the season - well done team.
So what have we done?
This week we have completed our planned Greens Aeration work across all greens.
Targeted coring was carried out on greens with higher organic matter (OM) levels to help address long‑term thatch reduction and improve drainage and surface firmness. On the 3rd and 4th greens in particular, coring and sand filling was completed prior to scarification, increased softness clearly highlighting the need for this targeted approach and supporting the creation of a cleaner, firmer growing medium. Consistency in our approach is key and member understanding essential.
A pre verti‑cut was followed by full scarification at 12mm depth targeting 12-16% of the putting surface this was carried out across all greens, including the 3rd and 4th. The work was carried out efficiently and to a high standard. Favourable dry weather conditions allowed topdressing to be applied cleanly and worked in effectively, putting the greens in a strong position for recovery.
We also welcomed a visit from the R&A agronomist on Wednesday, during which a full course walk was undertaken. This provided a valuable opportunity to review current conditions and ongoing maintenance practices.
As expected, there will be a short recovery period; however, the long‑term benefits of consistent aeration and organic matter reduction are considerable and will contribute to healthier turf and improved putting surfaces throughout the season.
Other work completed this week:
Bunker weeding and trimming
W**d control around various areas of the course, which will continue as required
Removal of tree debris around the course, with this ongoing as necessary
Manual irrigation across the course, targeting areas requiring additional moisture
With some damp weather forecast, we are optimistic about a strong recovery period and look forward to a great season ahead.
