A great weekend with four more candidates passing their RYA Level 2 course despite very gusty conditions on Saturday and a dearth of wind on Sunday morning (lots of theory delivered), compensated by a much better afternoon for sailing. We'll done to Clair, Em, Tim and Charlotte with big thanks to helpers Phil D, Neil E and Paul R.

Today five youngsters completed RYA Stage 1 on the hottest day in local memory. Some had never been in a boat on their own when they turned up on Tuesday so really well done for fantastic progress.
Here are some video snapshots from the highly successful Family Fun Day at ECPSC, including some of the work of our amazing volunteers, making it all possible. The recent hot weather brought a bloom of algae so planned on-water activities were modified but there was still much entertainment for all ages to enjoy and many people went out for their first time in a sailing boat.
This is Ant and he learnt to sail at Etherow, passing his RYA Level 2 in April. We have a RYA Level 1 course available to members on 25-26 July and will also be offering RYA Level 2 to members one the weekend of 5-6 September. It is easy to join our club - email [email protected]

A fantastic weekend with ideal conditions for our latest RYA Level 1course. After a light wind introduction on Hot Saturday, Sunday filled the sails and raised the ante with the sailors, now able to display their certificates, responding positively. They will be back for our development sessions on Sunday mornings to consolidate the learnings. A great reward for the team of volunteer instructors and safety boat drivers who made it happen.

Thought you might like to see Emily and Rolo after their trip out.
One of the three people who joined the club this weekend, Emily, who is already a skilled sailor took her delightful dog Rolo out with her in a borrowed ILCA as she didn't want to leave him in a hot car. Despite not being a water loving dog, Rolo gradually gained confidence and the pair joined in the afternoon racing.
Emily has now ordered a doggie bouyancy aid for Rolo

Had a callout today from Stockport Federation of Anglers for our safety boat to help rescue a fish tangled up on a line caught in bushes on one of the islands. Our Powerboat Instructor responded and with help from Fed officials, Hippo was launched, deployed, recovered and put back in its home after a successful rescue.
Maybe not saving lives at sea, but one life in a lake.
