Two effective takedown variations from a 2-on-1 grip.
The first uses a step behind the legs to drive your opponent backwards for the finish. The second flows into a duck under before hitting a fireman’s carry takedown.
Simple concepts, high-percentage techniques, and plenty of live drilling to make them work under pressure.

A huge congratulations to Ellissa, who made history for our gym by becoming our first female MMA fighter to compete last night at in a 3 x 2 minute C-Class MMA bout.
This was a fantastic event, being the first women-only fight shows designed to encourage more girls and women to get involved in martial arts and competitive MMA.
Ellissa put on a great performance. She showed confidence in her striking, attempted three takedowns, escaped some very tough submission attempts, and never stopped looking for opportunities to impose her game. Although she came up short on the judges’ decision this time, she gained invaluable experience and showed exactly why we’re so proud of her.
What’s even more impressive is that Ellissa has only been training for around 18 months. Through consistency, hard work, and dedication, she’s already competing at a level where she can hold her own against girls from some of the top teams around.
This is only the beginning. Ellissa will be back in the gym, continuing to improve and looking forward to competing again in the future.
If any girls are interested in getting involved in MMA, the best place to start is with jiu-jitsu and striking classes. Build your skills, build your confidence, and then make the move into MMA when you’re ready.

“Good wrestlers don’t stop after the first attack—they keep chaining techniques together.”
Tonight’s wrestling class focused on using the arm drag to set up three different single-leg takedown finishes.
The first finish saw us pull the leg to the outside and transition into a double-leg trip. The second involved keeping the leg central, turning the corner and sitting our partner down. For the third, we stepped back with the left leg while securing the foot, lifting into a high-leg sweep finish.
It was great to see the lads successfully hitting these techniques during sparring and, more importantly, continuing to work through the exchanges without giving up on positions.
Wrestling is a huge part of MMA, so it’s essential to spend time developing these skills.

Check out this clip of one of our coaches, Callum, breaking down some key details on escaping the half back position. The focus is on turning away, blocking the attacking foot, and keeping the knee high to create space and work back to safety.

Great work from everyone who attended Saturday’s MMA session.
We covered entries from an outside single leg attack into a double leg takedown, a solid counter by posting on hands and feet, and a reverse kimura from the waist to create attacks off the reversal.
The session also included striking sparring, MMA drills, technical work, and some quality rounds to finish.

Friday night striking session was all about creating angles and closing distance effectively. We worked on switching to the right to create openings for kicks and punches, before moving on to using a double foot plant to explode forward and land shots with power and accuracy.
After plenty of technical drilling, we put it into practice with 6 rounds of sparring before finishing with some hard body work. Great effort from everyone involved and another quality session in the bank.
Thursday’s 4:30pm Junior No Gi Jiu-Jitsu & Wrestling session finished with some great sparring rounds after another solid night of learning.
This week we covered 3 effective counters to the single leg attack before moving into guard passing drills to improve pressure, control and positioning. The sparring rounds gave everyone the chance to put it all into practice, with some brilliant effort and technical improvements on display.
Great work from everyone—keep turning up, keep learning and keep improving! 💪
