Great 1-2-1 session with Helen on the river this am. Helen had paddled with friends a few times and wanted to feel more comfortable at standing up. We chatted about river hazards on our way to the water. Then we worked on how our position on the board, our body posture and how we use our paddle to enhance our balance. Helen's confidence in standing grew over our time on the water, allowing her to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We also had a look at different turns - sweep and cross deck. Helen took all of this in her stride and just smashed it! 🏄‍♀️🌊😎

Saw this post about Weaver fish which have poisonous dorsal fin spines and live in the sand in the sea shallows......very painful if you step on them in barefeet.....best cure is hot water to neutralise the poison.....Best prevention is to wear sea shoes or old trainers

As requested, here's a useful Self Rescue techique. Pay close attention to the key points, staying low, keeping legs wide and reducing friction by commando crawling in little movements along the board. With all techiques its all about practice. If you have any questions leave a comment.

Great time on the water with Eddie this morning. We explored how our position, posture and paddle technique can improve our balance. We had a go at sweep turns and also enjoyed a mini journey on the river Tees under challenging conditions. Fantastic to see Eddie's confidence grow over the session and he smashed standing up and self-rescue on his first go at paddle boarding 👏 🏄‍♂️💪
