Hazelhurst vs Rifleman

First game jitters didn’t exist for the Hurst today as they were dominant from the first whistle. Few and far between with regards to shots on target but energy and the press was high.

After 10 minutes of knocking the ball around nicely with no avail, Ibsaa was clattered out wide to the left and won a FK. Jay stepped up and was screamed at relentlessly by Kie to hit the diagonal to Grant who was completely unmarked on the right wing. Jay obliged and pinged an inch perfect pass over the defence to Grant who brought it down and smashed his first of the day straight across the keeper. No chance. 1-0 The Hurst.

Chances came and went, Ant Blinco going close along with Kie again trying from distance, Ibsaa got in on it but nothing was sticking. Fair play to Rifleman as they caught us on the counter and their forward smashed the leather off the ball to equalise. Hurst 1-1 Rifleman.

This didn’t deter the high energy Hazlehurst side however, Roman took a ball down on the left well and fed in Ibsaa, Kieran ran straight through the heart of the defence screaming as usual, Roman dragged their defender wide and Ibsaa threaded a class ball through to Kie who poked home across their keeper first time. 2-1 The Hurst.

HT came and Gaffer Canaan gave his instructions, our passing was forcing Rifleman to work hard and they were tiring.

Second half begins and the pace was frantic again, Hazlehurst winning everything at the back with Kieran and Ibsaa feeding the wingers.

A break down the left created a chance to pull the ball back to Josh on the edge of the box, he sent the defender for a nap on the sideline and then made an absolute meal out of a tackle, so much so the ref gave it. Roman twerked for it, but Grant pulled rank and smashed home. 3-1 The Hurst.

More of the same, with our players now clearly enjoying themselves. Rifleman obviously didn’t appreciate this as a few lads started throwing elbows and kicking out. Ref obviously had his eyes on the game next to us because he didn’t see any of them. This didn’t deter The Hurst though who rose above and continued to show their class.

Late on, Grant produced something I can only describe as magical. 30 yards out, on the volley, always dipping over the keeper and into the top corner. Someone say pitch invasion? What a hit son. You won’t see many better than that this season. So if you’re interested, our home pitch is Springbank this season cos Grant is class and it won’t be his only screamer. 4-1 The Hurst.

A few more chances were carved out as Rifleman were overcommitting, Roman missing an open goal, Kie having one cleared off the line, Ant had a good header just miss the post and Josh finished after the whistle had blown for a FK, which their keeper used his lip over.

A silly FK was given away at the death and to be fair, their Captain put it in the side netting over Chris, great hit. No complaints. 4-2 The Hurst.

Shoutouts to Grant and Kie for the goals, Owen was class from the bench, Ibsaa yet again was everywhere, Yurii won everything and more, Ross played his first game in almost 2 months and Chris solid in net, Daz played with a broken rib and in multiple positions. What a team, everyone was mint today.

MOTM was no other Grant. Hattrick, screamer, bullied defenders, just class really.

KOTW was a tie between Roman and Ant, Roman for being booked for blocking the keeper from taking a goal kick TWICE, missing an open goal and not following a shot in for a tap in, and Ant for missing two back stick sitters one after another. Both worthy of a rinsing, and have been. We’re sure they’ll come back stronger..? Or at least less sh*te next week!

Next up, Football on Trent, Thursday 20th, 19:00, Springbank. Be there to watch the lads try to make it 2 in 2. Sure to be a cracker!
