Today is Shark Awareness Day! 🦈
This day encourages people to learn more about sharks and rays, and the vital role they play in the ocean's ecosystems. It also aims at improving public perception of sharks, raising awareness about the importance of conservation efforts to protect them.
Sharks face growing threats from human activity, and many species are now critically endangered. They are essential to the ocean’s food chain, keeping populations in balance and ensuring the health of habitats such as coral reefs and seagrass beds.
SSI has the perfect Shark Ecology course for divers who want to discover more: https://bit.ly/40jfVhY

UK IDEST test standards require a Visual inspection at 2.5 years from new or after a Hydrostatic test. However the Dive Community world recommendation is every year.
This is why it's important that you check your equipment regularly and if not confident to do your self get your local dive centre to give everything a once over annually.
This cylinder came in for it's 2.5 year Visual test. On 1st look everything seems fine. However the blanking plug that was installed on the right hand side, didn't look as it was seated correctly. It was flush with the end of the valve and usually they are seated further in. The insert was actually just finger tight and with no pressure was unscrewed by just placing a thumb on it. From the other picture you can see just how far the blanking plug should have been inserted and gently nipped up with an allen key.
Whilst it didn't leak it would have been putting more strain on the threads and potentially keep unscrewing over time. Luckily it didn't cause an accident.
Check your gear and stay safe whilst diving.
