Our super Women’s Softball team got their indoor season off to a fantastic start this morning, beating Old Bradwell New City by 49 runs.
Winning the toss and electing to field, captain Vicki Philpott set the tone early, opening the bowling with a brilliant economy rate of 4.5 and taking a wicket. Ashifa Tejani was equally sharp, claiming two wickets while conceding just 10 runs from her two overs. Rachel Miles and Holly Whitlock chipped in with a wicket apiece, backed up by solid spells from Wendy Arnold and Clare Ward.
With the bat, Philpott led from the front again with 13 runs, surpassed only by Miles with a top score of 19. Ward also hit her way into double figures with a valuable 11.
Speaking after the match, the skipper said:
"Great first indoor win of the season! 🙌 Fielding was brilliant, with great catches and run-outs. The bowling was mostly on target with wickets to match! Batting was definitely different in the sports hall, especially gauging when to run with less reaction time. Thanks everyone for playing, scoring, umpiring, and cheering us on to get our first game played. Here’s to the next one! 👏🏻"
Well said, Skip!
