Very proud of my client .hancock1 who has gone from no running at all to committing to running a mile a day in May to raise awareness and money for cancer research. As if this wasn't mad enough, she's doing it dressed as a poo... so if you see a giant turd running round Clent, show her some support and maybe consider donating.

Study time... decided it was time to upgrade my skills and qualifications. I'm doing a Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Clients with Long Term Health Conditions with . Lots to learn, but looking forward to it.
I currently have 2 spaces available for PT - one very rare 8am slot on Wednesdays, and one Monday afternoon slot. Message me if you'd like more information!

Amazingly, the studio is now 5 years old (how fast has the time gone?!) I've been shut for the past week so I could give it a refresh. Back open this morning for a busy week of clients.

What changes will you notice after your first few weeks of starting strength training?

My clients talk to me about how much better they feel. They notice everyday tasks are easier. They tend to have more energy and less back pain. They tell me they have noticed they are more confident in other areas of their lives.
I notice that they hold themselves better and their posture improves.

I'm not offering quick fixes. I'm in it for the long game. I want to be active and strong as I get older. As one of my clients recently told me, "this is life changing!". And if it means that at nearly 54 I have the fitness level of a 36 year old, I'll take that!

If you know, you know! I have a love/ hate relationship with Bulgarian Split Squats as do many of my clients...!

Definitely one for making you question your life choices, but on a more serious note, single-leg work is so important for sorting out any imbalances we may have as well as helping with balance which is increasingly important as we get older.

When the dog feels you may need a bit of support and encouragement... πŸ’ͺ🐢🀣

For various reasons I spent the last 6 months of 2022 struggling to lift anything very heavy, but I kept going and it's starting to feel OK again. This was a 20kg single arm row which is the heaviest I've tried in a long while. Arthur is offering moral support! (Not always helpful as you can see!)

One of the things I enjoy most about my job is the challenge of finding alternative exercises to make a session work for each individual client.

Every day someone will arrive and have a ni**le somewhere, or tell me they haven't slept very well, or their back is sore, so I'll have to adapt what I've planned to make it work.

There is always something we can do, and 9 times out of 10, the client leaves feeling better.

One of my long-standing clients has just had a Bupa health check. She's in her 50's and her scores for everything have improved since her last one 2 years ago. We've just been joking about how she's ageing in reverse! It's never too late to make a difference to your health and well-being. I love hearing things like this, it makes the early starts all worthwhile!

You don't have to be young to build muscle! A new client of mine was surprised the first time I handed her a dumbbell heavier than 4kg. Today we were goblet squatting with 15kg, and next week we'll be learning to use the Olympic bar to deadlift. Don't be afraid of the weights!
