π Lions End of Season Awards 2025/26 π - Before we celebrate this seasonβs award winners, it's important to recognise what this group has achieved together.
π’ In the words of JJ, this season can be summed up pretty simply:
The Lions will remain at Level 7 rugby and continue competing in Counties 1 West (North) next season. That is a genuine accomplishment.
When you consider how often the side changed throughout the year, the number of players stepping up to this level for the first time, and the number who willingly played out of position for the good of the team, it's a result everyone involved can be proud of. Add in the reality that we've rarely been able to train as a full squad, and the challenge becomes even clearer.
When adversity came, we dug in. Players, coaches, management, medics and everyone involved in the programme fought hard to keep moving forward. It hasn't always been pretty and, yes, we've done it by the skin of our teeth at times, but the history books will simply show that the Lions consolidated their position in the league.
This is where we draw a line in the sand. We pledge to improve together, push standards higher, and make sure survival becomes progress π
With that said, congratulations to this year's award winners:
π Clubman of the Year β Rob Gazzard
A hugely experienced operator who has delivered quality and commitment to the Lions for many years. His passion for the Lions brand is second to none. Also, we're still searching for evidence that he's ever lost a scrum π
π Newcomer of the Year β Harry Tombs
Stepped up seamlessly, showing incredible commitment, coachability and attitude throughout the season. Somehow always claims rugby is "fun" when the rest of us know better π€©
π Most Promising Player β Ollie Lynch
Made a huge impact following his switch to centre, breaking lines, scoring tries and showing genuine first-team potential. Imagine what he could achieve if he trained more than twice a season π
π Coaches' Player of the Season β George Westwood
An X-factor player who can influence every aspect of a game on both sides of the ball. Sorely missed whenever he's unavailableβ¦ whether that's due to first-team duties or a golf tee time βοΈ
π Special Commendation β Charlie Thompson
Stepped up a level this season and made his mark across the park. A model of commitment, despite having to leave approximately 30 seconds after every final whistle for work π
π Try of the Season β Callum Corcoran
A 60-metre interception try against Shrewsbury that defied all known prop stereotypes. Not your average front-rowerβ¦ and yes, the hair deserves a mention too π
πTop Points Scorer β James Westwood
Delivered crucial points when they mattered most, helping secure survival with pressure kicks and drop goals throughout the season. Remarkably, he also never loses his cool with teammates π
π Top Tackler β James Dallison
The tackles he's missed can be counted on one hand. The tackles he's made have broken considerably more. Relentless, punishing and uncompromising all season long. π
π Players' Player of the Season β Will Bishop
A deserved winner and now a regular first-team player. Before his promotion, he made a huge contribution to the Lions with outstanding athleticism, skill and leadership. An extraordinary player - and notably, no sliding tackles this season. βοΈ
π Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to our amazing coaches and management team, not to mention everyone who represented the Lions this season and their faithful band of supporters. BRING ON NEXT SEASON π©·π

Barry McVean
11 July 1947 β 28 May 2026
We are saddened to report the recent death of Barry McVean.
Much-loved husband of Pauline, devoted father of Cameron and Georgina and a dearly loved grandfather and friend.
Barry will be remembered with great affection by all who knew him, including the many pupils he taught and colleagues he worked with during his years teaching P.E. and English at Lye Secondary Modern School and Redhill School between 1973 and 1997. He will also be fondly remembered by those who shared happy times watching matches with him at Stourbridge Football Club and Stourbridge Rugby Club. Rain or shine Barry would attend Stourton Park to support the 1st XV in their home fixtures.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Barryβs life will be held at St James Church, Wollaston, on Wednesday 17 June 2026 at 1.30pm. The service will be followed by refreshments at Stourton Park, home of Stourbridge Rugby.
All who knew and remember Barry are warmly welcome to attend.
