The ever-popular Blaydon Races once again proved to be a firm favourite on the racing calendar, with a fantastic turnout from the Strollers taking on the iconic 5.9-mile route.
From the famous start in Newcastle to the finish in Blaydon, the atmosphere was as brilliant as ever, with plenty of support lining the course and runners enjoying this unique North East tradition.

A huge well done to all our Strollers who took part, and a special thank you to Blaydon Race for putting on another superbly organised event. 👏

🏃‍♂️🌆 𝐒𝐆 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝟓𝐊 🌆🏃‍♀️

A brilliant evening at the Sunderland City Runs 5k last night! A fantastic local race with an amazing atmosphere and incredible support all around the course — there’s nothing quite like racing on home roads 👏

Great to see so many Strollers out taking part, giving it their all and enjoying the buzz of a proper Sunderland race night. Huge well done to everyone who took on the fast city-centre route! 💪

🏃‍♂️⛰️ 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬! ⛰️🏃‍♀️

Over the past three weekends we’ve had some incredible Strollers taking on a whole range of ultra events — and what an effort it’s been from everyone involved! 💪

First up, we had 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐞, 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 taking on the Wild Deer Events 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚. The 𝟑𝟓 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 route followed the 𝐓𝐲𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬, heading through places including 𝐖𝐲𝐥𝐚𝐦, 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲, serving up a real mix of scenery and terrain along the way.

Secondly, a huge well done to 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧, who tackled the 𝐆𝐁 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚’𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝟓𝟎 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞. Starting and finishing at the stunning 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞 and taking in the 𝐘𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬, this was no easy day out! Adrian not only achieved a 𝐏𝐁, but also 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝟏𝟎𝟎 out of hundreds of hardy runners — a magnificent achievement 👏

Then just yesterday, several Strollers completed 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐩 — a brutal but beautiful 𝟒𝟖-𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 clockwise lap of 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐞. Described as a “low-level” route, it still packed in plenty of climbing with sections around 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐠 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐥 keeping runners honest! Massive well done to 𝐓𝐨𝐦, 𝐌𝐢𝐤𝐞, 𝐋𝐢𝐚𝐦, 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐞 for conquering the course 👏

Huge congratulations to all our ultra runners — the training, determination and mental strength needed for these events is seriously impressive. Absolute madness… but the good kind! 😅

🌟 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 – 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐧 🌟

April’s Strollers highlight goes to 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐚, who has achieved something truly incredible — becoming a 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐒𝐢𝐱 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫! 🏅🌍

With Boston Marathon as the final piece of the puzzle, Nicola completed her journey across all six majors: 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧, 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧, 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐠𝐨, 𝐓𝐨𝐤𝐲𝐨, 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 — an achievement that takes years of commitment, determination, and more than a little stubbornness! 💪🏃‍♀️

From training through all weathers to taking on some of the biggest marathon stages in the world, this is such a huge accomplishment and one that deserves to be celebrated. Nicola’s own words said it best — proving that we really can all do hard things.

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝… 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬! 🌍

A crazy bunch of Strollers took on both the 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 and 𝐊𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐰 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐬 last weekend — and what an effort from everyone involved! 👏

Whether it was your 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧, you were chasing a 𝐏𝐁, or you’d somehow convinced yourself 26.2 miles sounded like fun 😅, every single runner should be incredibly proud.

Months of training, early mornings, long runs, sore legs, and plenty of determination all led to those finish lines — and what an achievement it is.

Huge well done to all our members who took on the challenge and represented the club so brilliantly. Marathon running is never easy, but it’s always worth it. 💪

🏖️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ 𝐏𝐆𝐒 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏖️

Wow — what an 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲 for the Strollers hosting our annual 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞! Another 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫, and even the sun made an appearance (although a bit of cloud might have been appreciated by the runners! ☀️😅).

Starting on the beach at 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫, the route followed the stunning coastal cliffs past 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤 and 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞, before dropping back onto the sand at Whitburn and finishing at 𝐑𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐢𝐞𝐫 in Sunderland. A truly special course and always a highlight of the running calendar.

There were so many amazing performances from both Strollers and runners from near and far — it’s what makes this event so special every year. We’re incredibly grateful for all the support, from our 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 who make the day possible. We hope everyone enjoyed the goody bags too! 🎁

🍰🥮🥧 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫…

We’re still not sure what we enjoyed more at 𝐀𝐥𝐧𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐗𝐂 — the race itself… or the post-race treats 🤤

Full teams (and then some!) made the trip north for what is always a brutal yet scenic favourite on the XC calendar. Rolling fields, testing sections underfoot, and just enough “almost dry” ground to keep things interesting!

It was tough, it was honest, and it was everything cross country should be — with plenty of Stroller spirit from start to finish.

And of course, nothing beats a team day out… especially when there’s cake waiting at the end 🙌

👏 Special shoutout to our ‘𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐤𝐞’ 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲, who really toughed it out and opened up an impressive gap in the final 400m to seal it in style!
