The lads maintained their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a solid 2–0 victory over Ryhope FC. Three points, two goals and a clean sheet. 👏⚽️

The Grange nearly made the perfect start inside the opening minute when Joe Jones came agonisingly close following some excellent build-up play straight from kick-off.

The game settled after that, with The Grange seeing more of the ball and regularly finding good areas out wide. Nick Campbell was a constant threat and delivered a number of dangerous balls into the box, but we couldn’t quite find the finishing touch.

Ryhope had a few attacks of their own during the opening half, but nothing that seriously troubled the back four or Graeme Pickering in goal.

The breakthrough eventually arrived around the 30-minute mark. Some excellent work from Tom Crossland ended with an effort on goal which the goalkeeper could only spill, allowing Joe Jones to react quickest and slot home for 1–0.

The second half was an evenly contested affair, with both sides enjoying spells of possession without creating too many clear-cut opportunities.

The Grange’s best chances fell to Nick Campbell, who broke through on the counter, and Louis Caygill, but neither could find the finish to extend the lead.

At the other end, Pickering was called into action and produced a good save from a well-struck free-kick to preserve the clean sheet. 🧤

With around 10 minutes remaining, The Grange finally put the game to bed. Matty Slocombe delivered an excellent free-kick into the area, where Anth Gamble met it with a volley to make it 2–0. ⚽️

A top performance from the lads. Clean sheet, three points and our unbeaten league start continues. 💪

✍🏻 The Grange 3️⃣ – 5️⃣ The Flying Boat FC

A disappointing exit from the County Cup for The Grange yesterday, falling to a 5–3 defeat against a good Flying Boat side.

The first half was a pretty even contest, with both sides enjoying good spells of possession and creating opportunities.

Flying Boat took the lead somewhat against the run of play to make it 1–0, but The Grange responded well. A brilliant corner from Ian Whelan was met by Anthony Clifton, who produced a superb header to bring the lads level before the break.

🔁 Half-Time: 1️⃣ – 1️⃣

Unfortunately, the game got away from us immediately after the restart.

A crazy 10-minute spell saw The Grange concede four goals, the first coming just two minutes into the second half. At any level of football, giving a side that sort of advantage is always going to leave you with a mountain to climb.

Credit to the lads, though, because they refused to give up. The final 15 minutes saw us create some superb opportunities and, on another day, we could have taken the tie all the way to penalties.

Ian Whelan pulled one back from the penalty spot before Anthony Clifton grabbed his second of the game, finishing from a Slocombe cross.

Ultimately, the damage from that 10-minute spell proved too much to recover from and our County Cup campaign ends at the first hurdle.
