NES Demons made an emphatic statement on the opening weekend of the Russell Foster League season, storming to a commanding 5-0 victory over CLS United Tigers at Downhill Hub.

Despite blustery, testing conditions, both sides produced a hard-fought contest, but it was the Demons who possessed the clinical edge to claim all three points in style. The fixture also marked an impressive debut for new signing Elijah Hill, who with his first competitive outing for the club helped the team keep a clean sheet.

Facing a stiff headwind in the first half, the Demons weathered a competitive opening spell before taking control. The breakthrough arrived on 10 minutes when skipper Harry Pearson drove in a pin-point corner for George, who made no mistake with a tidy finish from close range.

The lead was doubled shortly after through a magnificent piece of pressing. Aggressive midfield work forced a turnover high up the pitch, allowing Noel to finish off a rapid team move following another setup by the instrumental Pearson. The Tigers responded with a spell of pressure before the interval, testing the host's defensive line, but keeper Elijah ‘Big-E’ Newey stood tall to preserve the shutout.

With the wind at their backs after the restart, the Demons put their foot on the accelerator.

Captain Pearson took centre stage with a sublime second-half double, executing two outstanding individual goals to push the advantage to 4-0.

CLS United pushed late on for a consolation, but the Demons refused to yield. Instead, the hosts struck the final blow on a swift counter-attack when Noel turned provider, sliding a pass through to Joey who slotted home a fifth to round off a flawless afternoon.

It marks a dream start to the new campaign for the Demons, who lay down an early marker at the top end of the table.

Well our Demons Boys were certainly up against it this morning playing a very well organised, fast paced and technical side.
The Kestrels certainly lived up to their name as they flew into a commanding four goal lead in the first half.
Another assertive team talk during the interval had the desired effect but unfortunately the Demons boys couldn't do a France last night by taking the chances which could well have seen us get a foothold in the game.
Disappointingly our missed chances proved costly as Belmont took control in the last 15 minutes, dominated possession and scored another four goals despite the heroics of Elijah between the sticks and some last ditch defensive clearances off the goal line.

Elijah once again pulled off some world class saves that had one of the opposition coaches offering him high praise on the touchline.

Ollie got stuck in when in defence and also went on a couple of good forward runs after battling for the ball.

Finley found it hard going, but wasn't the only one, trying to cope with their fast paced and tricky winger. As per usual though he stuck to his guns and got some important blocks in.

Ben, despite being ill during the night with a sickness bug, didn't let anyone down but struggled with the quick pace of the game.

George always trying to make things happen from the centre of midfield winning challenges and trying his best to drive the team forward, never gave up.

Harry the same as George in the centre of midfield battled diligently, chased and harried (no pun intended) another who gave his all for the cause.

Noel, great to see him doing a lot of the ugly stuff by constantly tracking back and marking one of their most dangerous players whilst also getting his foot in to some challenges.

Joey once again worked his socks off, he listened to the coaches and ran the channels the best he could but unfortunately for Joey and the team he was feeding on scraps.

And last but by no means least our MOTM Finn.
Chased and hassled all morning. Did some great tracking back and covering, almost scored another long distance free kick, and was another, who despite the scoreline and how the game panned out, never let his head drop.

The challenge for our Demons as we pointed out to them at the end of the match debrief was that we need to be at the same level as our opposition this morning.
You learn more about your players in games like this and the pleasing thing for the coaches was that not one of the boys gave in, it would have been easy for them to do that, but to a man, sorry boy, they showed great commitment in the face of adversity.
We are proud of them all but yes still plenty to work on.

Finally once again a massive thank you for the support from all you parents, grandparents, family members and friends.
It was a tough watch but our Demons will have better days.
Oh and Well Done Nicola who made us laugh with a couple of shouts of "relax"

THE NIGHTMARE START
Football is a game of fine margins, but on Sunday, the North East Sport Demons learned that lesson the hard way. Capable of brilliance but plagued by an early hangover—perhaps courtesy of a late night watching England—the Lads started in reverse gear. Before the match could even find its rhythm, the Demons were caught cold, finding themselves in a disastrous 0-2 hole within the first ten minutes. Defensive hesitancy and missed tackles gifted Browney FC Golds total control.

But the Lads didn’t capitulate. Thankfully, the Demons began to claw their way back into the contest, mounting fierce pressure in the final third. The breakthrough came from pure grit: a chaotic, breathless scramble in the opposition box saw Ollie react quickest, poking the ball home from literally a yard out.

The comeback trail was open at 1-2, but the joy was short-lived. Browney struck back with a ruthless double-salvo before the whistle, leaving the Demons staring down a mountain at 1-4 when the half-time whistle blew.

THE WAKE-UP CALL
"Talk. Tackle. Pass into space."

The half-time team talk wasn't just tactical advice—it was a fierce wake-up call. The message was loud and clear: strip it back to the basics, find the fighting spirit, or face humiliation.

Thankfully, the Lads didn't just listen. They responded.

THE GREAT FIGHTBACK
What followed in the second half was nothing short of a tactical resurrection. The Demons stepped onto the pitch looking like a completely different beast.

The Spark: Captain Georginio took matters into his own hands, unleashing a sensational, long-range direct free-kick that flew past the keeper to make it 2-4.

The Masterpiece: With the wind in their sails, the Demons produced a breathtaking, fluid team move. From the goalkeeper, through the ironclad defense, slicing through midfield, the ball found Sweenaldo who turned provider with a sublime assist for Pettaldinho to smash it home.

3-4. The pitch side was rocking. Momentum was entirely with the Demons. An equalizer felt inevitable.

CONTROVERSY AND HEARTBREAK
Then, the referee took centre stage. In a frantic closing sequence, the Demons had a blatant penalty turned down. 50/50 decisions consistently went the wrong way, and clear goal-kicks were bafflingly awarded as corners to the opposition. It was becoming a farce, completely derailing the Demons' attacking rhythm.

With numbers pushed forward in desperate search of a deserved equalizer, Browney delivered the ultimate sucker punch—scoring a quality team goal on the counter to kill off the game.

MAN OF THE MATCH: BENJIANO
Amidst the chaos, Benjiano was an absolute titan. Putting in a monstrous shift for the squad, he was an impenetrable wall in defence and an absolute nightmare for the opposition when he surged into attack. Currently in the form of his life, he was the heartbeat of the team today.

The Verdict: A heartbreaking final score of 3-5, but the Demons can hold their heads high. Winning the second half 2-1 proved this team has the heart, the guts, and the flair to bounce back. Onwards and upwards!

Last night we were honoured to be asked to play our friends from the start, the North East Sport Devils, in a friendly as their final game before they all move on to different things. Having played alongside and against each other from the start it’s been an absolute pleasure, great banter both ways and always competitive against each other. Even playing against each other in the final of our tournament at the Stadium of Light last year was a fantastic experience for all involved.

The match last night was played in great spirits and really was end to end, a fitting finale to their journey as a team.

We really are sad to see you disband but wish you all the best for the future in whichever path you take (you may see one or two in a Demons shirt in the coming weeks 😉) and Adam, Dan, Paul, all the boys and everyone involved with the Demons say good luck and sorry to see you go 🤝

DEMON DELIGHT AT THE HUB: SWEENALDO HITS ROCKET AS DEMONS SEE OFF SPIRITED WEST END BLUES

Summer League 2026: Clinical Demons march on after a sun-drenched four-goal thriller.

The sun was cracking the flags at Washington Hub for an early 09:35 kick-off, but it was NES Demons who turned up the heat to secure a hard-fought 3-1 victory over a highly rated Sunderland West End Blues side.

In a match played in fantastic spirits despite the soaring July temperatures, the Demons had to show both their footballing class and a gritty, resilient edge to overcome an up-and-coming Blues outfit stacked with dangerous individual talent.

FIRST-HALF FIREWORKS
The opening ten minutes were a classic chess match. Both sides looked to assert physical dominance early doors, trading well-timed tackles in the engine room. The Blues brought plenty of height and muscle to the party, forcing Hamps, Benjiano and Beatz (captain) to stand tall from the first whistle. Thankfully at the opposite end of the pitch, Pettaldinho was causing all kinds of trouble for the West End Blues defence, going close a couple of times.

But it was the Demons who carved out the breakthrough on 11 minutes. After a period of sustained pressure, the creative Hazza stepped up to a corner and floated an inch-perfect cross toward the back post. Midfield maestro Georginio anticipated it beautifully, hitting a sublime right-footed volley back across the helpless keeper to open the scoring.

The lead, however, was short-lived. Just five minutes later, West End Blues struck back with a moment of individual brilliance. Their towering number 10 picked up the ball deep in his own half, embarked on a mesmerising, length-of-the-pitch solo run, and coolly slotted a tidy finish past Big-E. It is the second time in a fortnight the Demons have conceded in such fashion - a defensive lapse the coaching staff will undoubtedly be eager to iron out on the training pitch.

Faced with a setback, the Demons didn't blink. On 22 minutes, Sweenaldo was hacked down on the halfway line. Dusting himself down, the young talisman took charge of the free-kick and unleashed an absolute rocket. The ball flew through the summer air and nestled beautifully into the bottom right corner, leaving the opposition goalkeeper clutching at straws.

Half-Time: NES Demons 2 - 1 Sunderland West End Blues

COACHES' ORDERS AND SECOND-HALF RESILIENCE
During the interval, as the players desperately took on fluids to combat the heat, the Demons' coaching staff delivered a clear message: keep the vocal communication high, make the passes count by exploiting the space, and maintain a fair but assertive presence in the 50/50 challenges.

The instructions were taken on board, but the Blues weren't about to go down without a fight.

The second half mirrored the first, with both teams trading blows. The Demons survived a massive scare early in the half when the visitors hit the woodwork twice in agonizingly quick succession.

With Big-E commanding his box with real authority, the Demons began to find their rhythm again. Moving the ball with positive intent - sometimes straight to feet, sometimes unlocking the defence with incisive through balls - they pinned the Blues back.

The pressure told just past the hour mark with what the coaching team usually describe as the ‘Perfect Goal’. Following a dominant five-minute spell, Hazza received the ball from a midfield pass, turned his marker inside out on the right wing before squaring a perfectly weighted pass into the danger zone. The penalty box was full of opposition players so our in-form game changer, Wrighty, side-stepped his marker and tucked home a brilliantly timed finish with absolute ease to make it 3-1.

The Blues rallied late on, throwing everything forward, but found Big-E in inspired form as he pulled off a spectacular, full-stretch low save right on the goal line. Fortune also favoured the Demons in the dying embers, with the woodwork denying the luckless Blues strikers two more times.

While West End Blues will feel aggrieved not to have crossed the line more than once, it was a professional, clinical display from the Demons, who take the points and march on.

MAN OF THE MATCH
Hamps (NES Demons): An immense defensive display from the centre-back. He anchored the backline with maturity, rarely letting an opposition player past him. On the rare occasion an attacker did find a yard, his 100% recovery effort to win the ball back was a joy to watch. A superb, tireless shift in gruelling conditions.

Special mentions go out to Hazza for his two assists, to Georginio for his box-to-box play, and to Sweenaldo for another rocket of a freekick.

A final massive thanks to family and friends who came to support the lads. Very much appreciated.
