POTM Joseph - what did he have for breakfast? On it from the start and full of confidence, both creative and strong, really well played Jospeh
OPOTM Arthur - a trophy on debut says it all, strong calm goalkeeping and great distribution, welcome to the team Arthur and good luck!

In a memorable game, the Madrid boys were unplayable in the first half to set up a great win, the first of the new league campaign. The passing and movement was incredible, there was always an option and the right decision was always made, alongside some clinical finishing the boys built a lead to make the second half a comfortable one and a great win. The list of names with goals or assists tells the story, everyone played their part in a goal except Harry who was commanding things at the back and Arthur on debut in goal. It really was a team performance to remember.

Whitburn raced into a five goal lead, with Durham pulling a goal back for a 5-1 lead at half time. It is always nice to play a team we haven't played before (i think) and Durham looked bright, especially on the break and certainly not four goals worse than Whitburn but that said, the Madrid boys were playing superbly and taking their chances. 1-0 came from a lovely pass by Joseph for Alfie to fire home, 2-0 after a flowing move, Alex out to Jamie, back into Alex to turn and score. Whitburn's third saw Alfie fouled in the box, Alfie then getting up to fire home the penalty. Four nil was Alfie's 11 minute hattrick, Jamie again the provider and the fifth came from Leo, with Arlo seeing his shot saved and the rebound falling nicely for Leo and a calm slot home.

Attacking wise Whitburn really had clicked but there was a really nervous moment at the back and Harry saved the day. With Durham clean through a brilliant last ditch sliding tackle stopped the chance. With the score 2-0 at the time, it really was a game changing moment, nice one Harry. Five great goals, could have been more, with Jospeh in particular unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with a couple of nice chances that were saved.

Half time 5-1

There was always going to be a reaction from Durham and despite the healthy lead, the next goal felt important. Step forward Arthur, our new goalie making his debut for Whitburn. He had already made his presence felt in the first half with some good saves, calm keeping and great distribution. At the start of the second half he really made his mark on the game. As Durham seemed certain to score with a really powerful shot, Arthur made a super save with his right arm to s***f our the danger. This was closely followed by a brave dive at the feet of a Durham striker and two chances were gone. Great stuff Arthur, what a way to introduce yourself to your team mates, we look forward to more of the same as we get to know you better.

That important goal came and it fell to Whitburn, Jamie breaking through and playing a perfectly weighted pass to Alfie to fire the sixth goal. There was almost a carbon copy later in the game which Alfie miscued, the two of them just connected today, Jamie setting up two of Alfie's four goals. Jamie also fizzed in two great corners along the ground, one in each half, neither somehow inexplicably got a single touch. As mentioned the whole team were playing so well and with great confidence, typified by tenacious Arlo, some sensational close control and dribbling, strong play to hold up the ball and earning a corner. There were more goals though, Durham showing great spirit to fight back with three second half goals but it wasn't enough and Whitburn ran out deserved winners.

Final Score 6-4

A super game from two good teams, ten goals and a very entertaining match! A week off now, next match vs Stockton 🟡⚫️

POTM Harry - another all action display with some brilliant last ditch interceptions and blocks, well played Harry

OPOTM Alex - lots of trickery and determination on the wing, carrying the ball into the danger area and causing lots of problems, nice one Alex

Matchday Two of the new league campaign brought us against Hebburn and a few familiar faces which is always fun. In a pretty even match Whitburn just didn't take their chances whilst Hebburn did, resulting in a 1-3 defeat. It was a shame to lose as the day was an important one for one of our players, more later.

Whitburn got off to a lightning start, something to warm up the crowd on a rainy and cold morning. Jamie sprinted down the left, crossed the ball into Alfie who slide in to score and take an early lead in just the first minute! The rest of the half was an entertaining one with the Whitburn boys creating lots of chances but mainly shooting from distance with their keeper playing well. Hebburn were dangerous on the attack, it also wasn't quite running for them either so it looked like Whitburn would take a narrow lead into the break. Not so, the half ended like it started, with a last minute goal, a penalty given for handball. Rowan made a great save to deny the goal, only for the ball to rebound back to the striker to shoot again. Another great save from our heroic keeper, only the ball had gone over the goal-line on the second shot and the goal was given. From our end the parents thought it was an amazing double save so a bit embarrassingly we ended up cheering a Hebburn goal!

The amazing double save from Rowan was almost perfect for the context of the match - this was Rowan's last match with Whitburn as he takes a break from football. Rowan has been with us from the very start, one of our originals, he will have played over 100 games for Madrid. He has been an outstanding keeper as well as a great friend to all of the team. An incredible shot stopper and recipient of the GSR comment repeatedly in match reports (Great Save Rowan) we will miss our rock at the back. We all wish you the very best Rowan, we will miss you.

The second half started as the first did, with a goal but this time for Hebburn, a simple tap in from a cross into the box and a 1-2 lead. Despite some great play Hebburn added another to make the final score a 1-3 defeat. Lots of effort and some good football, just not quite clinical enough when the chances came and we paid the price. Onwards to next Saturday and New Durham AFC 🟡⚫️

We couldn’t be more proud of the boys this season. They have shown amazing resilience throughout a lot of changes, they have worked hard and every single one of them has developed.
They are looking forward to the new season and having fun in the meantime with training sessions and socials.
Our end of season presentation at The New Crown gave the boys a chance to celebrate their win in the last match of the season. Their work rate, effort and support of each other is second to none.
Sincere thanks to everyone who has supported us this season - parents, grandparents, siblings and friends have maintained a constant belief in this fantastic group of boys.
Onwards and upwards lads.
Special congratulations to parents’ player of the season ARLO RUTHERFORD, player’s player of the season ALEX LOW and coach’s player of the season HARRISON MIZEN.

POTM Arlo - energetic in midfield, always trying to set attacks away after winning the ball. Well played Arlo
OPOTM Harry - brilliant today, full of running, always alert to dangers and made the right tackles at the right times, a rock in defence. Nice one Harry!

Whitburn just didn't turn up today, after some great performances in recent weeks they were a bit flat today and never really got into their stride. Had some early chances gone in they it may have been a different story but Waldridge Park deserved their win on a lovely sunny morning at Ford Hub.

Whitburn started brightly and almost took the lead, a corner from Jamie was cleared to Leo who fired a shot onto the crossbar. It was really unlucky but unfortunately the Madrid boys missed the fact that the ball was away on the counter-attack and Waldridge Park took the lead. Whitburn soon equalised with a lovely goal. Harrison took a quick kick in to Jamie in space who crossed in for Arlo to then find Alex unmarked at the back post and he squeezed the ball home from a tight angle for 1-1. As quickly as the Madrid boys got themselves into the game, they went behind again to another breakaway goal and though we didn't know it at the time, the winning and final goal.

Madrid went close with Alex again at the back post and some nice Harrison corners causing problems, with Alex volleying over from one, but no more goals and Whitburn went into the break 1-2 behind.

To be fair to the boys, they were much improved in the second half and had one really great opportunity that was sent over the bar, but Waldridge still had the better of the play, shooting wide when clean through a couple of times and forcing Rowan into three good saves. Leo made two blocks when they seemed certain to score but it was Harry who was superb throughout, reading the attacks and making perfectly timed tackles and blocks, then setting away attacks. He really had a great match today, a real bright spot in a disappointing morning for Whitburn.

We look to bounce back in our last match of the season next week against Washington. 🟡⚫️
