"Encouraging new mums to exercise—once they've been given the all-clear by their doctor—is so important. Taking some 'me time' after having children and investing in your own well-being can be truly transformative. I feel so lucky to work with Busylizzy Balham, where my Mondays begin with postnatal Pilates alongside 20 little ones, and Tuesdays are spent in the park, with babies comfortably shaded under my tent. Life really is fabulous!"

I had the most incredible day teaching individuals referred by their doctors about exercise and nutrition. It was inspiring to see so many people eager to improve their health, with some focusing on weight loss and others striving for overall well-being. The dedication and enthusiasm from the group were truly amazing. Sharing practical tips, like strategies fitness trainers use to manage sweet cravings, proved to be helpful and effective. I’m thrilled to see people embracing the idea that sustainable lifestyle changes lead to better physical and mental health. What a rewarding experience!

1. Fat Loss Isn't the Whole Picture
• Many people believe that losing weight automatically means better health, but that’s not always true. Weight loss often includes muscle loss, which can weaken the body.
• Muscle is metabolically active, meaning it burns more calories even at rest. Building muscle can actually encourage fat loss over time.
2. The Importance of Strength Training
• As we age, sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss) sets in. This can lead to weakness, decreased mobility, and a higher risk of falls and injuries.
• Strength training helps maintain or increase muscle mass, which:
• Boosts metabolism.
• Improves bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis.
• Enhances functional strength, making daily activities easier.
3. Muscle Improves Overall Health
• Muscle isn't just for looks—it contributes to:
• Better blood sugar control, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.
• Improved posture and joint support, decreasing the risk of chronic pain.
• Increased energy levels and better endurance.
4. Balanced Nutrition is Key
• Obsessive dieting for fat loss often leads to nutrient deficiencies, fatigue, and muscle breakdown.
• A diet rich in protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs supports muscle building, energy levels, and overall health.
5. The Big Picture: Long-Term Health
• Strength training and building muscle are investments in future health. While fat loss might be the immediate goal for some, muscle building is about sustainable, long-term well-being.
• Encourage people to think beyond the scale—strength, energy, and vitality matter more.
Conclusion: Emphasize that a combination of strength training, proper nutrition, and a focus on building muscle benefits overall health far more than crash diets or an obsession with fat loss alone.

Why your back pain may be caused by your pelvis- Pelvic alignment is crucial for spine stability because it ensures an even distribution of weight and minimizes strain on the vertebrae, muscles, and ligaments of the spine. Misalignment can lead to poor posture, imbalances, and increased risk of injury. Pilates helps by strengthening the core muscles, including the pelvic floor, deep abdominals, and back muscles, which support the pelvis and maintain proper alignment.

FACT-
The human skull weighs approximately 5kg, and when properly aligned with the spine, the body can support this weight with minimal strain. However, if the head tilts forward or is not in alignment, it places excessive pressure on the neck and upper back, leading to muscle tension, poor posture, and even chronic pain. This misalignment can contribute to headaches, stiffness, and long-term spinal issues. Pilates is highly effective in improving posture and alignment by strengthening the deep core muscles, including those that support the neck and upper back. Through controlled movements and mindful exercises, Pilates helps retrain the body to maintain a neutral spine, keeping the head balanced over the shoulders. This reduces strain, improves overall posture, and prevents discomfort, making daily activities easier and more pain-free.
