Veseyans made it back to back wins after a hard fought win at the weekend.
V’s began the game with conditions in their favour but it was Burntwood who started the brighter, but a resolute defence from the home side meant Burntwood were repelled and after a turnover V’s were in the ascendency. From a well worked lineout V’s were able to spread it wide and Archie Strachan was able to glide over for his first senior try. Burntwood undeterred continued to cause the home side problems and it wasn’t long before they had a 2 scores of their own to take the lead 10-7. V’s were struggling to get into their structure and with the lack of ball became frustrated however a moment of brilliance from Jack Ward who spotted space in the backfield chipped over for his second row partner Jack Hodson to collect and crash over to retake the lead. With the clock in the red another error from the home side gave Burntwood the ball and after miscommunication out wide, they scored their third try to take the lead at half time 15-14.
Playing up the hill in the second half V’s had it all to do, but from the off V’s controlled the half, within minutes of the start V’s retook the lead through Josh Reynolds and from there they didn’t look back. Firstly a penalty from Charlie extended the lead before the moment of the match saw V’s regather the ball in midfield and the ball was passed to man of the match Archie who beat several defenders before scoring under the posts to put V’s firmly in control. Another score from Danny Hemming put the game to bed before Burntwood gained a 4th try and a bonus point with the last play of the game.
V’s will now look ahead to next week where they play Newcastle at home as they look to consolidate second place in the league.
