💍THE RING IS TOO BIG💍

When we talk about weight loss, we usually focus on the obvious things, the number on the scales, clothes getting looser, progress photos, feeling fitter, stronger and more confident 🥹

But sometimes it’s the little things you don’t even think about that really show just how far you’ve come.

Nearly 6 STONE down… and now her wedding ring doesn’t fit because it’s too big 🥹👏🏼

It’s one of those milestones that probably wasn’t on the original goal list, but says so much about the changes she’s made!

Weight loss isn’t just a smaller number on the scales. It shows up in places you never expected, your clothes, your face, your energy, your confidence… and apparently, even your fingers 😂💍

Nearly 6 stone gone, and a wedding ring that now needs resizing 🫣

What an achievement, and a trip to the jewellers 🙊💍

What started as a GP appointment on Tuesday for migraines that had been coming and going for a few weeks turned into a hospital stay I definitely wasn’t expecting. 🏥❤️‍🩹

I was sent straight from my GP to the Same Day Emergency Care Unit for blood tests and a CT scan. From there, I was admitted for further investigations, including full examinations of my eyes and a lumbar puncture.

Unfortunately, the first lumbar puncture didn’t go to plan and had to be stopped. I then had a CT scan with contrast, which gave the doctors more reason to investigate the pressure around my brain and meant another lumbar puncture was needed.

The second one was thankfully successful. They were able to measure the pressure, remove some of the excess spinal fluid to relieve it, and send the fluid away for testing.

Once all of the scans, examinations and test results were put together, I finally had an answer: Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH).

IIH is a condition where the pressure inside the skull becomes too high because of a build-up of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain. “Idiopathic” basically means there isn’t an obvious underlying cause for why the pressure has increased. The increased pressure can cause symptoms such as severe headaches, nausea, dizziness, visual changes and swelling around the optic nerves and if it isn’t properly managed, it can potentially affect your vision.

I went into that GP appointment thinking I needed help with migraines and came out of hospital a few days later with a diagnosis I’d barely even heard of.

It’s been a lot to process in a very short space of time, and definitely not the week I thought I was going to have. But I’m grateful that I listened to my body, that my symptoms were taken seriously and that I now have an answer and can start figuring out what living with IIH looks like for me 🤍

A reminder that sometimes a headache really is more than “just a headache” and you know when something doesn’t feel right in your own body ❤️‍🩹
