Pleasure to see PGA Pro williewardgolf who is based in Guernsey, in the studio today. Came in saying we’d need to have a mind game session, struggling with contact point and shots curving right… left a happy golfer hitting lovely push draws, reaction to last shot of the day says it all 😎💪

The lie angle of your putter doesn’t dictate the arc of your putting stroke.

That said, golfers are wonderfully inventive and can introduce all sorts of unwanted movements that absolutely will affect the path of the putter head — hand and arm manipulation, shoulder motion changing during the stroke, rotation, sway and plenty more besides.

But if we’re talking about the fundamental geometry of a well-organised putting motion, it’s the plane of motion of the shoulders, not the lie angle of the shaft, that determines the trajectory of the putter head.

Golfer who has a tendency to shift the swing direction rightward too much, which effects spin loft and ball speed. Working on this by monitoring the club head trajectory during the backswing.

Congratulations to on a fantastic victory at The Open today at Lytham🏆

I can’t say I’m surprised. Over the years she’s regularly shared videos of herself on her socials, working on Golf 101 swings, and you can clearly see some of the key movement patterns that are so important:

✅ The change in knee flex during the backswing
✅ The hands working inward
✅ The upper body tilting in the opposite direction to the turn
✅ A straight-arm finish through the ball

These are fundamental pieces of a great golf swing, and they’re movements I encourage my own students to develop every day.

Will copying them guarantee you’ll win an Open Championship? Probably not! 😄 But incorporating these fundamentals into your game will certainly give you a better chance of playing your best golf.

Sometimes the basics really are the difference… and of course it helps to have a sharp short game.

If you’ve ever had a lesson with me, this drill should look very familiar! 👀

Bournemouth golfer practising this week at Royal Lytham with her coach Alex Buckner, using the classic “bowler drill” with a towel tucked under both arms – a staple Stack & Tilt exercise that I’ve had hundreds of golfers work on over the years.

The drill encourages golfers to swing on a tilted arc around the body while maintaining their inclination, and diminishes the raising of the shaft that often plagues better players. It’s one of those simple drills that delivers huge benefits when practised correctly.

For those who dismiss these ideas as “different” or “unorthodox”, it’s worth remembering that the world’s best players and coaches regularly use drills like this. Great movement principles are great movement principles, regardless of the label attached to them.

As always, there are little details I’d still be refining if this were one of my players. I’d personally like to see the shaft working a little more underneath the trail shoulder at P5, with the hands exiting lower under the lead shoulder following the strike. That’s the beauty of coaching—there are always small refinements to chase, even at the highest level.

☀️ Summer Camps are officially underway! ⛳️

What a fantastic way to kick off the first B3 Golf Academy Summer Camp of 2026! It was brilliant to welcome back some familiar faces and meet plenty of new ones too.

The effort, enthusiasm and smiles from everyone made for an incredible day. From learning the fundamentals to taking on fun challenges and games, every golfer showed great improvement and a fantastic attitude. 👏

A huge thank you to all the parents for trusting us with your young golfers—we can’t wait to see many of you back at future camps and coaching sessions.
