Tonna RFC U14s

Mud, obstacles, soaked kits, aching legs… and somehow still smiling at the end of it all. Today the boys took on the Race for Life muddy run and absolutely smashed it. 💪

They battled through every obstacle thrown at them, got covered head to toe in mud, and raised money not only for Cancer Research but also for the team. Brilliant effort from every single one of them. It was one of those days where Rugby took a back seat and character, teamwork and heart took over.

A massive thank you has to go to Tania for organising the whole event. These things look easy from the outside, but there’s a lot of work behind the scenes, and today ran brilliantly. So hats off to her for putting together such a great day for the boys and families.

There were plenty of laughs along the way too… some elegant obstacle techniques, some less elegant face-first mud dives, and a few lads who looked like they’d been excavated rather than coached by the end of it. Safe to say the washing machines across Tonna/Britton Ferry/Cimla are about to be working overtime tonight.

On a more personal note, today also carried a lot of meaning for us as a team. One of our coaches, Dai, sadly lost his mum to cancer several weeks ago. So today’s run is dedicated to her memory, with love and respect from all of us at Tonna.

Dai, we’re all thinking of you mate, and we look forward to having you back with the coaching team when the time is right. ❤️

Tonna U14s vs Gorseinon – Match Summary
Tonna U14s delivered a strong, committed performance against Gorseinon in a closely contested match, eventually losing 35–27.

After a competitive opening, Gorseinon stretched the lead to 21–10, and the game risked getting away. Tonna responded well, showing resilience and staying in the fight with relentless effort in both attack and defence. They worked their way back into contention and pushed Gorseinon all the way to the final stages.

A key turning point came with a handoff decision that went against Tonna, denying what would likely have been a crucial score and shifting momentum at a pivotal moment. Despite that setback, the boys continued to compete and can feel unfortunate not to have come away with the win.

There were several standout performances across the team. Jake Jenkins was outstanding throughout, carrying hard, tackling aggressively, and making a major impact across the field. Seb Grey also impressed with his all-round contribution, working tirelessly and influencing play on both sides of the ball. Both players were deservedly named Men of the Match.

Sam Terry controlled the game well at fly-half and scored an excellent try in the corner following a sharp switch and offload. Will made a superb line break, while Finlay was strong across the set pieces and around the field, unlucky not to take an award himself.

The forwards worked effectively in their pods, showing structure and physicality, while the backs executed their moves with confidence, reflecting clear progress in training. The set piece was particularly solid, with Tonna’s dominance in the scrum even leading Gorseinon to opt against a scrum at one stage.

Overall, despite the 35–27 result, this was a high-quality team performance and a positive way to finish the season, with plenty to build on going forward.

On paper that looks like a heavy loss. In reality, it wasn’t.

We went in at half time 5–17, and that tells you everything. Against one of the top sides around, the boys matched them with effort, structure and intent. That’s not luck, that’s standards.

There were big tackles, sharp passing phases, and real periods of pressure where we looked the better side. Yes, there were mistakes, and at this level you get punished for them. Neath took their chances well, and that’s ultimately where the game got away.

But the reaction matters more than the score. The attitude, the resilience, the willingness to keep working, that’s what defines a team. Even their coaches acknowledged how we played and the standards we brought. That doesn’t happen by accident.

We dug in and got our try through Jake Jenkins, and it was deserved.

🏉 Jake Jenkins – outstanding all round. Big tackles, strong carries, and took his try well.
🏉 Seb Grey – relentless carries, constantly gaining ground.

And to be clear, this was a full team performance. Every single player contributed. Against a premier-level side, the boys showed spirit, discipline and pride.

Tonna RFC U14s welcome our close neighbours Neath Athletic Minis and Juniors this Friday evening at 6.30pm Kick off on the club's Memorial field.

It will be our last home game of the season as an u14s age group, so they will be looking to put a good shift in and enjoy playing in front of our home supporters 💪 🏉 💯

Tonna RFC U14s 39 - 19 Glyneath RFC

Our Final home Sunday game of the season ended with a win in what was a tough fixture in challenging conditions.

Glyneath scored early but the boys didn't let it affect them, scoring themselves soon after. The tackling by both teams were top draw with Tonna going into the break with a narrow 17 - 12 lead.

The second half saw Glyneath take the lead 17 - 19 but Tonna were able to dig in and score 4 more Trys. A very entertaining game, with lots of Trys scored and Glyneath were brilliant guests.
