West Wales Intermediate Cup – Round 1

Kilgetty AFC 4–3 Ynysmeudwy AFC

A heartbreaking way to exit the West Wales Intermediate Cup after a performance where the lads deserved so much more.

We started brilliantly, controlling the game and taking the lead through Tom Lewis, who finished neatly after being set up by Paul Sypliwtchak.

We then doubled our advantage after a brilliant run from Paul saw him brought down inside the box. Tom stepped up and confidently dispatched the penalty to make it 2–0.

Unfortunately, from there the game became incredibly frustrating. Some of the decisions throughout the afternoon were very difficult to understand, with challenges going unpunished and several big calls going against us.

Kilgetty then pulled one back from a dangerous free-kick delivered into the box. Our centre-back was clearly pushed away as he went to challenge for the ball, but no foul was awarded, allowing the hosts to get on the end of the delivery and make it 2–1.

After the break, we again started well, but a poor goal allowed the hosts to level at 2–2 before they went ahead to make it 3–2.

The lads kept fighting and in the 90th minute, Max Evans rose brilliantly to head home and make it 3–3. We thought we had forced extra time.

However, there was one final twist. Kilgetty scored again deep into injury time to make it 4–3, despite their striker appearing to be several yards offside. Another hugely frustrating decision on an afternoon where we felt very little went our way.

Despite the disappointment, the lads can be proud of the performance and the fight they showed. We wish Kilgetty all the best in the next round and thank them for their hospitality after the game.

Ynysygerwyn AFC Reserves 1-2 Ynysmeudwy AFC

After a disappointing result and performance last week, the lads knew they had to respond in what was always going to be another tough league fixture. We expected Ynysygerwyn to strengthen their side with a few Welsh League players, and that proved to be the case, but it didn't stop the boys from putting in a brilliant performance and coming away with all three points!

We came flying out of the blocks, controlling possession and creating chances from the opening whistle. Our passing football was much improved from last week, with every player sticking to their tasks and working hard for one another.

Our positive start was rewarded in the 23rd minute when Tom Lewis opened the scoring with a lovely low finish, following some great work and an assist from Anthony Morgan.

Just five minutes later, we doubled our advantage! A quality delivery from James West was met by Ryan Rouse, who produced a superb headed finish to put us 2-0 up!

The lads continued to dominate the first half and created further opportunities to extend the lead, but we went into the break with a well-deserved 2-0 advantage.

We started the second half with the same intensity, continuing to play some excellent football and testing the opposition goalkeeper. However, Ynysygerwyn gradually grew into the game and began creating chances of their own, with Dylan producing some excellent saves between the sticks to preserve our two-goal lead.

In the 64th minute, the hosts pulled one back to make it 2-1. It was a disappointing goal to concede considering how well we'd played, and it certainly made for a nervy final 25 minutes!

The game became a real end-to-end battle, with both sides creating opportunities in what was a great contest for the neutral. However, our defence stood firm, putting in a superb shift to keep the hosts out and secure a massive three points on the road!

A brilliant response from the lads after last week's disappointment, showing exactly what this team is capable of when we get the ball down, play our football and work hard for each other! 🤍🖤

Man of the Match: Ryan Probert

Probert was back to his best in this one, showing his quality throughout the game. His fitness levels were superb, covering plenty of ground and putting in a massive shift for the team from start to finish. He worked tirelessly both on and off the ball and played a huge part in securing the three points. A top-class performance from him and an absolute joy to watch!

UP NEXT – WEST WALES CUP
Attention now turns to next Saturday as we travel down to Pembrokeshire to face Kilgetty in the West Wales Cup!

It's shaping up to be a brilliant day for the club, with the lads looking forward to a proper away day and the chance to progress into the next round.
Once again, the support we've received has been incredible, and with a coach heading down full of supporters, we're hoping to make it a day to remember!

A massive thank you to everyone getting behind the boys. Hopefully, we can reward that support with another big performance and book our place in the next round!

After a disappointing performance away to Coed Darcy last weekend saw us fall to a 5-1 defeat, the lads are back on the road today looking for a response as we travel to face Ynysygerwyn AFC Reserves.

The two sides know each other well after some tight battles last season, with Ynysygerwyn getting the better of us on those occasions. We know exactly the type of game to expect and the level of performance that will be needed today.

It’s a chance to put last weekend behind us, show a reaction and fight for a massive three points as we look to push ourselves back amongst the teams at the top of the table.

We really appreciate DJP Plumbing and Heating LTD getting behind Rouse and supporting Ynysmeudwy AFC this season. Support from local businesses makes a massive difference to the club and we’re extremely grateful!

Longford FC Thirds 5–7 Ynysmeudwy AFC Reserves

After a hard-fought win last time out, we expected another tough game against Longford. The message before kick-off was to bring the same work rate, and the lads certainly delivered.

We made the perfect start when Jaden Morgan opened the scoring after just six minutes, assisted by Scott Morris. Longford equalised against the run of play, but the lads responded brilliantly and continued to play some excellent passing football.

Scott Morris restored the lead on 22 minutes before Callum Richards made it 3–1 shortly after. Jaden then grabbed his second, reacting quickest after seeing his penalty saved, before Jordan Davies added a fifth.

Just before the break, another brilliant team move involving Jordan, Ashton Rees and Lewis Reddy ended with Callum Richards finishing superbly for his second, sending us into half-time 6–1 ahead.

Longford pulled one back after the break, but Ashton Rees got the goal his performance deserved on 63 minutes to make it 7–2.

The final stages became scrappy and Longford refused to give up, scoring three more to make it 7–5. The lads held firm to see the game out and secure another massive three points.

Overall, some brilliant football played for large parts of the game and plenty more confidence to take into the next one.

Man of the Match: Ashton Rees

Excellent performances across the midfield, with Scott Morris and Callum Richards both close contenders, but Ashton just edged it.

He was instrumental in linking the defence and holding midfield with the attack, always calm on the ball and looking to play sharp, positive football. Off the ball, he worked tirelessly to win possession back, helping the defence when needed while also winning the ball high up the pitch to keep us on the front foot.

A brilliant all-round midfield performance, capped off with a well-deserved goal.

Ynysmeudwy AFC 2–1 Glynneath Town

We knew going into the game that it was going to be a tough test, with Glynneath coming to the Corbwll as last season’s Premier Division champions.

The lads started with incredible intensity and, from the first whistle, controlled the game comfortably. We were a constant threat going forward, with their goalkeeper pulling off some very good saves in the opening 20 minutes to keep the scores level.

We eventually broke the deadlock through Ryan Rouse, who produced a lovely finish after a brilliant delivery from a free-kick by James West.

Just a few minutes later, we doubled our lead with an early team goal of the season contender! 😮‍💨🔥
Some brilliant short, sharp passing had the visitors in knots before Rouse drilled a lovely ball across for captain Anthony Morgan to finish it off and make it 2–0. We can’t wait to see that one back on the VEO! 👀

The only real disappointing moment from us came when we conceded a sloppy goal on the counter attack, allowing Glynneath back into the game.

From that point, though, we settled straight back down and continued to dominate the ball and play our football. We created chances throughout the game and, credit where it’s due, their goalkeeper was outstanding. He kept them in the contest and was comfortably their Man of the Match, because on another day we could easily have scored plenty more.

Overall, another brilliant performance from the lads against the reigning champions and a fully deserved BIG 3 POINTS!

Goalscorers & Assists:
Ryan Rouse ⚽️🅰️ (DJP Plumbing and Heating LTD.)
Anthony Morgan ⚽️ (D.G.S Tyre & Garage Services)
James West 🅰️ (ABs Beauty)

Man of the match: Paul Sypliwtchak
(Travellers Well)

Paul was absolutely brilliant from start to finish and put in a massive shift for the team. His attacking play was excellent and he could easily have grabbed himself a couple of goals, but it was his defensive work that really stood out. Paul showed all of his experience, was everywhere on the pitch and contributed massively at both ends.

A top all-round performance and a fully deserved Man of the Match!

Both teams are in action today!

Our First Team welcome last season’s Premier Division winners Glynneath Town to the Corbwll. It’s set to be a great test for the lads and should be a good watch for the neutral!

Our Reserves make the short trip to Parc Ynysderw to face Longford FC Thirds.

It’s been a tough start to the season for the Reserves with plenty of midweek games, but the boys have dealt with it brilliantly, winning all four of their opening games.

They head into today full of confidence and will be looking to make it five from five and bring all three points back home!
