Introduction to Paddleboarding

We are running our last beginners lesson this Sunday. As with all our beginner lessons we'll be running the session from Botley where the river is very quiet, calm and beautiful.

We'll start by running through the equipment and some basic instruction on the bank and then get on the water and go for a short journey - adding more tips as we go.

The Whole Hamble

The Whole Hamble event is an opportunity to paddle the whole of the Hamble in one go. We've chosen dates when the tide will be carrying us along throughout, giving us a helping hand on the 10km paddle.

We'll launch from the slipway at Botley and head upstream, past the Hidden Tap, until we get to the top of the Hamble. This is where we'll start from.

Then we'll paddle back past the Hidden Tap and the slipway, past Fairthorne Manor and the Curbridge Spur, on to the pontoon at Manor Farm and past the Grace Dieu, under the 3 bridges (M27, railway and A27), past the Jolly Sailor, Swanwick and the Pink Ferry and then on to the mouth of the river at Warsash.

We'll send you a map before so you can tick the various landmarks off as we pass them.

First Aid course

River Hamble Adventures will be running a two day First Aid course in Southampton on the weekend of 19th and 20th September.

This will be a recognised course, so will tick the PaddleUK box but will also be delivered by someone with decades of real life experience - in other words concentrating on what actually works, with plenty of time to practice.

The price of £165 also includes an (optional) evening paddle on the beautiful River Hamble and there are camping options nearby if anyone wants to stay down for the weekend.

Intermediate Paddleboarding

A big thanks to everyone who came down to Swanwick for the Intermediate Paddleboarding session on Saturday.

We had a bit of wind - but actually for an Intermediate session that was perfect. Paddling into the wind forces you to paddle well (at least if we were to make any progress ) !

We covered effective forward paddling, turning using bow rudders and how to paddle without needing to swap sides. As well as some river knowledge like when you need a permit and the rules of the river.
