Your child doesn’t need to be confident before starting Jiu-Jitsu.

That’s exactly why they should start.

Confidence is not something children magically have.
They build it by doing small difficult things in a safe place.

In Jiu-Jitsu, children learn to listen, focus, try again, deal with pressure, respect others and improve every week.

The quiet child starts speaking more.
The shy child starts joining in.
The distracted child starts focusing.
The nervous child starts believing:

“I can do this.”

At Gracie Swindon, we don’t just teach techniques.

We help children build confidence, discipline and resilience — on and off the mats.

➡️Justice or Rectitude (Gi): Doing the right thing. It means making fair decisions based on reason and sticking to what is right without hesitation.

➡️Courage (Yū): This isn't just physical bravery in a fight. It is moral courage—having the strength to do what is right and face your fears, even when it is difficult.

➡️Benevolence or Compassion (Jin): A samurai had the power to kill, so they had to balance it with mercy. This means protecting the weak and showing sympathy toward others.

➡️Respect or Politeness (Rei): This goes much deeper than just having good manners. It means having a genuine, caring regard for the feelings and experiences of other people.

➡️Honesty (Makoto): Telling the truth always. A samurai's word was so trusted that they rarely signed written contracts. If they said they would do something, it was as good as done.

➡️Honor (Meiyo): Having a strong sense of personal dignity and worth. To a samurai, a life without honor was considered worse than death.

➡️Loyalty (Chūgi): Remaining completely devoted and faithful to your master, your family, and your country, even in the hardest of times.

➡️Self-Control (Jisei): Keeping your emotions and desires in check. A warrior was expected to master their own mind and reactions before trying to conquer an enemy.
