We are so pleased with the turnout on Saturday for the men’s first pre season match and guard of honour for our dear friend and respected club member Rod who passed away last weekend.

Thank you so much to Atherstone RFC for the game and for the generosity, alongside our clubs younger teams for raising the flags and the minute applause.

We managed to raise £753.79 in funds, all to be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support in Rod Bristow’s name.

In Memory of Rod: A True Gentleman and Club Man

Dear Members, Vice Presidents, and Friends of Tamworth RUFC,

It is with profound sadness that I share some deeply difficult news. On Saturday, our dear friend and long-standing club stalwart, Rod Bristow, passed away. His wife, Libby, has kindly asked me to pass this news on to the wider club family.
Although I sent a brief message to the Committee and Vice Presidents in the immediate shock of the moment, I have taken some time today to reflect on the immense legacy Rod leaves behind.

For over 30 years, Rod was the very definition of a loyal, dedicated, and supportive volunteer. He was a true gentleman: kind, impeccably mannered, and always ready to listen or share a warm word with anyone at the club, across every age group. His impact spanned decades and touched nearly every corner of Tamworth RUFC.

That legacy was built through years of quiet, practical service. Many of you will remember him as a constant presence on Sunday mornings. For years, he opened the club early, working tirelessly alongside Mandy in the kitchen to help feed the Sunday rush. Long before the shutters went up, Rod could often be found at Bookers, personally gathering provisions to make sure the club was ready.
He joined our Junior Committee alongside me some 30 years ago, and in time, we stepped up to the General Committee together.

For the past 10 years, Rod served diligently as our Assistant Treasurer and Club Treasurer. He was vital behind the scenes, negotiating our brewery deals and working closely with our bar staff and stewards to keep things running smoothly. He cared deeply for our club and clubhouse, and was always willing to drop everything and open the doors at short notice whenever needed.

He was also a driving force behind setting up our Wednesday night Dominoes Team, and he supported countless club members over the years by arranging mortgages through his business, Croft Financial Services.

Rod had been unwell for some time, though in true fashion, he kept it private and only informed the committee earlier this year. Because he gave so much of himself, so quietly and without fuss, it was easy for people to take his immense workload for granted. His passing is a profound shock and a devastating loss to us all.

Yet even in our sadness, we can hold onto the fond memories that will always bring a smile, including our Junior Tours and last year’s tour to Bratislava, where Rod famously walked around with a briefcase practically attached to his wrist, stuffed to the brim with fake cash.

We have lost a true friend, an exceptional servant, and a dedicated club man. When you are next at the clubhouse, please raise a glass in his honour. He will be deeply and truly missed.

After careful consideration and consultation with clubs across England, the RFU has decided to delay the start of the competitive community game season until the week commencing Monday 21 September.

The RFU recognises this will be disappointing for clubs, players and volunteers who have been preparing for the new season, but the decision follows consideration of a range of factors. For full details please follow this link.

Tamworth Men’s 1st XV's pre-season friendly at home against Ashby RUFC has fallen foul to the weather conditions.

With the delayed start to the upcoming season announcement yesterday, we'll look to see if this can be rescheduled.

There’s plenty happening though still.

VPs’ Garden Party kicks off from 1pm, the Lads are still down on the Park playing a Friendly fun game of cricket instead!

The Bar is open all day too!
