Baddha Konasana is a pose I have always found extremely hard (and painful!). In this article by Heinz Grill https://heinz-grill.de/en/the-cobbler-pose-baddha-konasana/ the following sentence has made a real difference to my practice:
"The movement is mobilised entirely through the power of contraction in the lowermost region of the body, while the upper body finds its way to extend and lengthen more freely and easily."
The temptation of course is to try to bend forwards with the upper body, but if I can summon up the self discipline to really contract in the pelvic region, then the upper body feels much freer and I can actually come slightly further. In the picture series in the article you will see how Heinz Grill manages to come right to the floor - well I'm an extremely long way off - but keep going! The article chiefly discusses the health benefits of gathering energy in the pelvis.

📹Expanding the breath into the upper sides...
In this class we stretch the sides of the body. The intercostal muscles are activated so that the breathing in the upper sides can flow more freely. This in turn helps to mobilise and energise the upper spine, with a gently regenerative effect.
Poses include:
Surya namaskar - the sun prayer
Parivrtta tuladandasana - the twisted scales
Matsyasana - the fish
Parivrtta janusirsana - the twisted head-knee pose
Trikonasana - the triangle
Expanding the breath into the upper sides - 30 min - Yoga in Somerset - Karen Patterson #YogaClasses

Singing as meditation
Tuesday 2nd June, 4:00 – 5:15 pm
at Extons Barn, Milverton, TA4 1RG
A new group is forming to meet one a month to sing both Indian and English songs that express a deep content of truth. The aim of singing as meditation is to build up a peaceful atmosphere in our surroundings and beyond. We will meet in the peaceful, light and airy yoga studio here at Extons Barn, in the middle of the country side. The studio has a resonant acoustic and a very peaceful energy.
Our singing will begin with a meditative thought. As we repeat the songs we will work to bring this thought alive more and more, until it has a radiance that brings harmony both to the music and to the connection between us. My aim is to radiate a peaceful atmosphere not only to each other but to the world.
If you would like to join us please email Karen: [email protected].
All are welcome and you need no previous experience of singing.
This event is free of charge.

One of the houses here at the Sun Oasis in Italy has had a Rye hedge planted around it. Rye is one of the most strengthening grains. You can see this from its very long and straight, upright stems.
Rye is sown in early autumn and takes up the sun's forces for a whole year before being harvested. It is grown in cold climates and has the strength to withstand harsh conditions, as do the people who consume this grain as their staple.
One single seed will give rise to a dozen or so stems, each with a whole ear full of new grains. What force must be contained just in one single grain!
